ive had a few PM's lately asking about metal head gaskets (mhg) for the 7MGTE 7MGE 7M-GTE 7M-GE (yes im including all this shit so people can find this thread with the search engine)
anyway, below is a (BIG) pic (no photoshop - again!) of a HKS gasket demonstrating its laminated construction. you DO NOT use o-rings with these kinds of gaskets.
However , copper head gaskets (another kind of mhg) require orings withou question - copper is soft and maleable, and requires the extra clamping pressure around the combustion chambers provided by the orings in order not to blow

Gobble gobble
That is much better.
As I am not going to remove and completely disassemble the engine to deck my block (unless all else fails), tyhen I wont get to see one of these puppies in the flesh
Thanks anyway, it look nice ....
PS On another note. I had to machine the discs slightly and take 7mm off the back of the MS65 hubs to get sufficient clearance around the LCA and ball joint. It was just too close otherwise. Also, the RA60 upper spring perches (on the front struts) are a different dia to the MA61 units !!
Ooorooo

Stock Gasket and ARP studs works for me, just cleaned the block with a scotchbrite thing, got the head surfaced and put it back together correctly... surfacing the block is for pain junkies

any issues with the spring perch dia? i never noticed myself!! to the springs still seat ok? it doesnt come anywhere near the tyre does it?
as for the discs - that sucks. i might just stick with using the 'disposable' wilwoods until im forced to consider another option.
you couldnt just notch the LCA a little for clearance?

Nah, just used the MA61 units. (mental note - these ate the ones at the top of the struts. The lower ones are fine)
Yes it is a shit re the discs, but oh well.... The willwoods will be fine for most work, and if need be, get the heavier duty (48 curved vane I think) Wilwoods. It is just on a hrd track like Mallala that the lightweight willwoods die a quick death.
I'll get you some more pics when I get the discs and hubs back from the old man
Cheers

Whoops, hijacked the thread ...
And yes Allan, I intend using the stock gasket, good prep and ARP studs, as well as a large dose of sensibility....

Do HKS metal head gaskets require a sealant such as hylomar? I understand they are rubber coated.
Also. Can they be reused? Mine has got water and oil between the sheets because the head bolts along the exhaust side came loose. Is there a way to clean and re-use them?
