hey guys i've finally have got all my ideas for what i'm going to do with my camry
the list goes
blue park lights (installed them today)
custom grill
bonnet scope (I know I just wanna be different)
16 inch wheels (don't know what to get yet)
2&1/4 inch exhaust (has been mentioned before)
make the center consol silver
monster tacho with shift light
neons (blue of course)
and a sub wolfer in the back
rear spoiler
I reckon this will be a fun project
what do you guys think?
and does anyone know how I would go about making a custom mesh grill?
and no the 3S-FE's staying in the car

hmms - good luck with your build up
Instead of a bonnet scoop , why not a set of cosworth style vents ?
Scoop is pointless - as youd probably know - but the vents will help dissipate heat from the engine bay ..
Wheels like toe ones on my gt4 would look nice on a sv21 too
Anyway have fun! thats what car moddings all about

Im hoping that the blue park lights can be turned off seperatley, if not i sugest you do so, same with any other non-standard lighting, trust me neons are nice to show off but make it so you don't get done by police.
Custom mesh grill would be best achieved by getting an old grill then removing all the innner slats and replacing it with your mesh, i did a VN custom grill, it looked good but it got wrecked in a datsun related accident.
a new zorst will sound good.
what did you have in mind for neons.

na there not the ones you can turn off I'll have to do something about that funny you mention that. wasn't going to worry about it untill i seen the police just before going up to the shop but seemed more interested in this ute that wen't past but they were giving me a look so I'll have to invest in that i think ,didn't really think off it though at the time I got them as for the neons I was thinking about having something to light up the floor (blue of course) and was thinking about having one in the boot (blue) once the subs installed so i can fold the rear seat down or open the boot and have something to look at when me and me mates have sound offs I also forgot to mention that I also plan on having a sports steering wheel and pedals in this project as well

auto or manual?
The best place for neons in the front is the footwell, but also if you have map pockets putting them in there looks good, i did all the wiring terminations using screwed terminal block, and taped off power from my cigarette lighter.
U might need steering wheel puller when removing the stock steering wheel, mine was on fairly tight.

If u were going with a blue theme u could go also with a blue gear knob and boot, there are light up LED ones, but i think a quality leather that matches with the steering wheel would suit more.

yeah I'd rather the leather one myself there sort of a better feel with the leather gear knobs and as you said would suit it more with the steering wheel as for the boot i like that idea so i plan to do it, i don't plan to do to much in the way of changing interior carpets though as the carpets are pretty good I might forget about changing the center consol to silver though I'm starting to think it may not suit it with the brown interior what do you think?

I don't mind the interior color the interiors in pretty good nick so thats why i don't really wanna change it 2 much but with a blue interior the silver consol would suit it well regardless of interior color the neons shhould look pretty sweet at night so I think i won't worry too much about changing the color of the center consol but I'm going to have to replace the back section of the center consol but the bin lid decided to break the other day

Have the same car and am looking to do a few of the same things, ie grill, exhaust, sound system. Wouldnt mind putting a slightly heavier clutch in it, or at least one with a shorter throw. Clutch seems very jumpy atm.

yeah they seem too run forever mines got just over 200,000kms and one of the mechinics that dropped me car off back here told me that it goes well for its age and another said he was very suprised with it I've known people who have had or still have SV21 Camrys with over 400,000kms on them and still going good I think its the way there looked after too may have something to do with it as well, mine for what it is, is a very good car runs well, with adequete performance excellent fuel ecconomy and reliable I'd recomend a Camry too anyone who wanted a reliable family car or a car to get about in. GreyWolfe what colors yours if I'd had a scanner I'd put some pics up of mine

really I thought this would of been a good size for the exhaust maybe I should go 2 inch? is there anyone else out there with a Camry with a 3S-FE that have put an exhaust on theres out there I would like to have some idea of what to expect from different size exhaust systems (ie 2inch 2,1/4) I know a 2.5 inch exhaust would be to big but but have been told by some that a 2 1/4 inch would be good but i wan't to know from some other Camry owners who have done this to see what improvements and disapointments they have had (so I know what to invest in)
cheers

I think mine is either 2 or 2 1/4. Im not sure what power gain/loss i got because i didn't dyno the car before the new exhaust. But the car sounds alot louder, wether you like that or not, it does tend to drone a bit on the freeway. I have heard the gains from cat-back exhaust are minimal. If you want a real increase in performance extractors, high flow cat is the way to go.

Best money i spent was on the suspension, it used to wallow like a boat, now it sits flat and handles better then a camry ever should...
|
:lol:I know the feeling especally at high speeds I think I'm going to have to replace mine anyway as for some reason my number plate cops a hiding from were it makes contact with the road over some bumps or I come out of a drive way to quick(been having to do that slower lately) it's only been doing it lately I think the suspension might be starting to go but still has a comfy ride so dunno if it is the suspension or not as I have never had a suspension related problem in both cars that I have owened

My friends used to piss themselves laughing when we would go round a corner, cos they need to tilt their heads at 45' angles to see level or have to look upwards to see me round a left hander...
Stopping was fun too...just like a waterbed...

Yeah I think extractors and exhaust will be the first mods on my list. Id like to keep it outwardly stock for as long as possible. I also don't want that annoying drone when driving tho had it with a 2 1/2 system in my corolla and it droned something horrid.

The best cheap mod you can do to a sv21 is get a k&n panel filter for your stock airbox you get a bit in the lowend and topend which noticable, but dont cut your airbox, its sounds excelent but doesnt to anything in teh performance department hehe . Catback exhaust is the next best thing. The best performance mod is a full exhaust system with extractors and hi flow cat which will give you about 12kw at the wheels improvement over stock, dont beleive me ask ICEMAN he has dyno figures to prove it .
If your a real driver and like to double you speed limit in corners and roundabouts like me you should get the handling setup redone, i have monroe gt gas shocks( i dont recomend them because i busted it once, get KYB's) and i have King Springs dropped the car 1.5 inches, i have 17z so it sits perfect but if you get 15 or 16 inch go 2 inch drop, i also front bushes changed to harder nolathane bushes.
Also the Strut bar made a huge difference but i only Imported 8 from the US and all sold. The Camry Sounds, runs and Handles better than my sisters 6th gen celica, i was on Mt Panorama going down conrods straight and hit teh 90degree left hander at 90 k/hr and teh car just gripped and swung around the corner like on rails, my mate turned white he thought we were going to go straiht into the sand trap, though it could be teh Pirelli P-Zeros on the front keeping us inline .
We have had the car in the family since brand new in 1992 and now it has 358,000 ks and still looking good and going strong, I LOVE MY TOYOTAS . It was a 3 year process adding more and more too it, and now im sad to say im selling it coz i have a celica project car .
Heres my favorite Pic of my car, currently the only difference is 20% tint which is not in the photo:

ummm Camry sway bars yes they do have them, you can get a Whiteline Sway bar, front or rear, but it is preferable that you get the rear one only as it will make the most dramatic difference. i havent done anything to my camry's suspension other than the whiteline rear sway bar and front strut brace that smt_007 ordered....and it makes a hell of a difference...
the whiteline rear sway bar will set u back abt $200 and takes abt 1 hr to put in if u have the tools and know what u are doing...

love the color of ya Camry mate no I haven't had any problems like that with mine or anyone elses except for the clutch master cylinder on mine (not its fault) and me CV boot I have to replace (been told thats a Camry thing thou) my parents Camry has an auto in it and doesn't have any problems with its auto when the coolant is cold the only problem with theres is the reverse lights haven't worked for over 12 years(neutral safety switch) as for the transmission thing it is normal for it not to shift into overdrive if the coolant temperature is below 50 degrees

You have to watch and replace the CV boots on a regular basis (100,000km is average), its possible that you may have missed a damaged boot and as a result all the grease has come out of the joint.
I also have the neutral saftey switch problem, its minor so i can't be bothered fixing it, although i may have a look and see if i can adjust anything. Other than that my fan switch/speed controler burnt out and would't work on high. I do have central locking but its an aftermarket system. 206kms, no problems.

body roll is fun, my corona suffered badly from it before I put HD coils and better shocks in, under hard accleration it used slump at the back heaps now it barely moves.
Still maintains a little bit of roll cos the springs are standard ride height but they are much better than stock, I can hold certain corners at about 20Kph faster than I could before yay.
I reckon its got a better ride on the stiffer springs the car you to float and bounce way to much, now you hit a bump or pothole and it settles instantly whereas before it would bounce up and down.
Mind you the front shocks and springs all round were original ones from the car and after 400k km they should be pretty well stuffer.
The front shocks pretty much had no rebound when we replaced em, you push it in and would take ages before it came back up.
I reckon got the 3sge for a bit more power some mild suspension work, filter exhaust and minor exterior mods and your car will be great.
