how to cut a 3mm deep 1.5mm wide channel in rubber?

to finish my radiator, I need to cut a channel of the above dimensions in some 6mm thick rubber.
Ideally I'd use a router I guess, but I dont have one. I'm considering tracing the channel with a knife, then following the line with a drill - but as it's so narrow and the rubber is fairly firm, I'm worried about breaking the drill bit (and I've broken a few drill bits in my time attempting to use them as router pieces)
any other ideas?

What about a die-grinder with a really agressive bit in it and use that as a sort of router?

You might be able to get a dremel bit about the right size and use that in your drill.

A small wad puch in the drill and then "stitch" drill the holes works well.(P.S this is best done in a drill press)

Draven, in the late 50's early 60's I watched a guy re-groove the tyres on Dad's Hillman Minx! Picture this, a heavy duty soldering iron, with a steel hoop attached at the hot end. Get the iron hot, and push this tool into the rubber, follow the original tread pattern. I haven't seen one of these in years!, but some of the circuit race teams use this tool to turn slicks into intermediates! Perhaps an enterprising lad such as yourself, might be able to construct a suitable tip for a large soldering iron.
Regards Chuck.

You could try a motorsport tyre supplier to use a tyre groover to do it. The use them to cut slicks and adjust rally tyres.
