Great choice of car to buy. I bought mine for $2000 but be weary the cheaper they are the more repairs. I know this after having a LC torana, a TA22 celica (highly modified) and now my AE82 hatch, with rust.
Heres the low down, be prepared to spend about $5000 for one in good shape. Or one cheaper thats slightly bumped, or rough.
Cause your in Melbourne, maybe also look towards SA as well, they be cheaper to buy there.

hahaha i picked up mine for a $1000.
Perfect condition. except for minor scrapes on front quarter.
NO RUST.
600 bux of repairs.
Drives like a charm.

there not a bad car, i reckon the hatches in the 82's look like they've been cut short.. but anyway
im interested in buying a Ae82 seca, did they bring out any sport versions?. the 4 door sprinter, as there known. coz i don't mind them

Yeh what a bumber, You do tend to find you pay more in sydney anyway. But am on the prowl for another AE82 hatch in good condition, looking interstate as they are cheaper and in better condition!

To find a sports version in Aus will be very hard. All body kits I think were specially ordered or aftermarket for the sports versions of the AE82 twin cam seca's, from overseas.
And the hatches do look cut short but thats half the appeal of them.
