Finally finished fixing up my supra, and took it over the pits today, what a bad day i had, they found a few problems wich are nothing major, but the killer problem that made it a bad day for me was that the inspector guy could't find the compliance plate for my imported supra. And so failed the car. I thought i was right becuase the car was over 15 years old and didn't need a compliance plate!?
As for the parts i need:
A center bearing for the driveshaft, it's in the middle of the driveshaft, Mine has heaps of play it's not funny :(-
A rear engine mount or i think it's more accuratly called a gearbox mount (i have an auto A340 transmission). If i put a screwdriver under that mount i can lift the gearbox up a good 3 inches, so that probably means it's worn to buggery?
Id rather not have to take the 3 hour drive in an unregistered supra to get the rip off toyota dealer prices for these parts, can anybody help me out?

dude i dun think u need a compliance plate for a 15 year old import is this the green plate thingy in the engine bay , i got mine registered witthout it , when they asked i told the guy that 15 year old imports dont need it
as for the drive ahft bearing , is this the black rubber thing on the drive shaft in the middle of the car on the drive shaft
mines got play as well , the rubber in mine is one soft and the damn thing has a bit of play in it ,my car vibrates during the first to second gear change asked my mechanic , and he said it was due to the rubber seal/bearing and showed it to me , im also after one
good luck with all the other stuff dude

Indian i wish it was that easy for me, just tell them it doesn't need a complaince plate becuase it's under the 15 year rule. These ppl don't believe there is such a thing as the 15 year rule, it's the first time they've heard of it i think. They need to see someething official before they will pass my car for rego :(-
Anyway yes your description of the center bearing sounds the same as mine, and my car vibrates between 1500-2500rpm, i'd say it's from the worn out center bearing, I heard they are F#$kn expensive, to the tune of around $400 from toyota.
If you find a place to get one that isn't $400 let me know can ya man? ill do the same.
Thanx for the advice.

replacing the bearing is actually pretty easy. just follow the manual - its all pretty simple (need to drop the shaft and fiddle with the bearing retainer in a vice)
shop... hmmm, expect to pay around 350inc parts id say

Indian, this manual
http://www.cygnusx1.net/supra/library/TSRM/in/IN_0 1.html
should help you out.
Good stuff ed, i did not know repco sold center bearings suitable for our cars. I wouldn't expect the quality to be the same as toyota's tho, but better then a worn out center bearing.
Also ed, what about a gearbox mount/rear engine mount? i remember you helped me out in the past with toyota parts, don't suppose you can help me again with the gerabox mount?

you don't need a compliance plate but you do need a mod plate. have you done all of the required modifications to get a mod plate? sounds like you need to do more research.
by the way does anyone have a proper working indicator stalk for an ma70?

mod plate ???? wtf ??
When was your car imported.
Did you import it.
Current Rules state that an engineers certificate is needed to pass a car. If you need more help with this situation, call me as I can put you onto the right people who will pass and register your car, as I import and register cars every month from Japan.
What state are you in ?

Kristian, Buaght the car off a guy who already imported it and registered it, It would of been under the 15 year rule as it is an 87-88. Also beecuase it has no compliance plate and was registered in VIC. So it simply comes down to bieng in Tas, the vechicle inspectors don't know shit, but i will go back to them with some facts printed off the internet, aswell as the phone number to vic roads where they have record of my car bieng imported and all legal.
Now i just need a few parts to pass the rego inspecetion, the compliance plate thing should be sorted.
Thanx for your help.
