4AGTE Questions Tue, 04 May 2004 01:15 Go to next message
hello people.

i would like some information about running oil lines to the turbo? Where is the easyest place to get oil from the block?

also running water to and from the turbo? where does it come from and where does it go back to?

another thing, on the side of the block there is the oil pressure sensor and next to it there is a bolt looking thing that also goes into the block, what is it for and can i use it for the oil to the turbo??

thanks people

dale...

I've just measured up all my water & oil lines for my 4AGTE, & I'm just about to head out to get the fittings I need. Smile

I'm T'ing off an oil line from the oil pressure sensor to feed oil to the turbo, then I'm using that bolt loking think next to the oil pressure sender which is actually a drain cock to drain coolant, I'm using this to supply coolant to the turbo. Then I'm returning the coolant to the temp sensor housing on the back of the head, as I'm not using one of the 2 temp sensors on this (it's either for the cold start injector or thermo fan, one of the 2).

I guess I'll know this afternoon if I can get all the fittings I need to hook it up like this.

EDIT: the most common way to feed coolant to a turbo is to T off the 2 heater hoses, one supply & one return, but I'm just looking for something a bit neater.

How did the lines work out for your water supply?

I got it all hooked up no problem like I described, with NPT to AN adapters into the block & temp sensor housing then -6 hoses from them to the turbo.
But I havn't even filled it with coolant yet let alone started the thing. Smile

Joel, bear inmind that you will definately get an airlock with that setup in the lines there, the reason is the height above the pumping level, I had this issue on an old engine with a modified thermostat, make sure you bleed the air out when the engine is running.

something else Im thinking about is the flow, Im not sure what the volume requirement is thru the turbo to keep it cool is but you might want to work out max flow through that line at (X)rpm to make sure its going to flow enough to keep it cool?
