Should I fix up my AE82 twin cam?

My twin cam is in serious need of help. I bought from someone off this site and didnt realise how bad the rust was until about a month ago. The engine has been stuffed around with before I got it and Im having problems, its at the dodgy mechanics at moment. Plus front end damage that wasnt straightened properly.
Theres a red twin cam hatch for sale with no rego, a little rust, with engine and gearbox, but without belts etc, so the engines not running. The guy wants $1000 for it, but unsure if its worth it.
I could use some interior parts, front spoiler, grill and rear left window from it plus strip it down to see if I could rebuild it.
Guys, Im in a mess in deciding what to do.
Should I buy it? or is $500 more of a reasonable offer to offer the guy?
If theres any one who could give me some good advice, or give some contacts, who know what there doing with an AE82 hatch it would be much appreciated. I live in the Inner west of Sydney and really want to have a slick looking hatch or at least getting mine in working order. Plus Im a student so money and work only is done in dribs and drabs, when I can afford it.

I'd fix up the current one if i were you It'll probably end up cheaper...just fix up the rust first and then work your way to the front end....they're great cars. Especially with a 4agze .
Look great too!!!

Got a quote for $4oo to fix rust without spraying, which I'll leave to last. So monday the rust will be fixed.
My dad isnt interested, but he sees I cant help myself when it comes to cars. So hes paying for my recent repairs, yeppeeeeeeee
I spent half of today using photoshop to see what mags from magazines looked the best on my car. The GT golds from ROH are looking good for the end of the year.
Thanx for the response
