Hey, does anyone know anything about nissan turbo chargers... specifically the rb25det turbo. Like what changed from 45v2 to 45v4 or what exactly these codes marked on them mean...

there are heaps of nissan turbos that look the same. the rb25 looks very similar to the vg30. i've got a few dud ones sitting at my work i think the vg30 has the 45-v4 markings on the compressor housing. these turbos are not worth playing with they pretend to be t3 but they are really made by hitachi and no one has parts for them. i found out the hard way after the rb25 turbo blew an oil seal and i got 2 vg30 turbo that were duds as well. the rb25 turbo also has a paper thin compressor wheel compared to the vg30. make sure your turbo actually came off an rb25 cause vg20,vg30,rb20,rb25 turbos all look similar

better tell that to otherwise bog stock 1j powered lexadore running mid 12s with stupid traction loss with street tyres .
daily driven on 17 psi boost
considering that they are a ball bearing turbo and considerably more reliable than 1gggte or 1jzgte turbos . i think they a little better than shit .
id happily swap my 1j stock turbo for a pair of these in good condition

The VG30 turbo (if it is in good condition) is acctually a better turbocharger then the RB25det one.
There is nothing wrong wity cermaic turbos' they do their job (fast spool up, larger heat resistance) better then their steel counterparts. However they cant be spun fast, which is winding the boost up does.
Consider a stock R33 which has a 7 psi (at 1 bar) pressure drop loss accross the stock intercooler, see's 14psi at the intake manifold ( this is where boost gauges read boost, at the intake and not the turbo), the turbo is acctually boosting an additional 7psi just tocounter for the loss at the intercooler, to get you the final 1 bar reading of boost in the intake, that means that the stock turbo is acctually good for a bit more then just the usual 14psi crap people dribble

hoorah
thankyou class your lesson is over congrats .Ive been trying to tell people for years now .the reason our stock 1j turbos can handle 17 psi boost is they arent working as hard to make it with custom intercoolers, dumps plumbing etc .
in fact all i have done is set the boost up to where the turbo is running most effecient . and begin removing restrictions after that .Interestingly enough pre intercooler temps are currently lower than stock running 16 psi boost .mmm love these new dump pipes

i checked the one i got its a vg30 and is a 45v2
but i did have a vg30 that was a 45v4 im pretty sure.u can tell the difference between rb25 and vg30 by the compressor wheel design. if u look straight down at the compressor wheel on the vg u can clearly see 2 sets of blades on the rb u cannot.i was comparing the 2 turbos today and was chatting to garret about them. that is when i found out they are a t3 copy made by hitachi and u cant get parts for them.

Does the 45 in 45v2 refer to the compressor? Ie 45mm?
