Hey fellows,
Just asking a question I am starting to do alot of highway driving in the little sprinter and obviously it is speeds over a hundred. My car is reving over 3xxx rpm all the time for at least 1 hour. Will this destroy my car after a while and ruin my engine?

Guessing this is a 4ac? I do the same thing, mine sits on 3k for around an hour a day. Last time I was driving around in the Barossa Valley I had to keep it on 4k just to be able to do 100km/h and have enough grunt left to get up hills and that was fine for about 45mins.

i had the impression that long drives at speed is good for the car as it burns/cleans the engine ?? true ?

That's fine. We used to drive our cruiser down to Melbourne and beyond and that was up to 14 hours of 3000+ revving. No problem at all.

yeah won't hurt it I do heaps of highway driving in my car and it sits on 3-3500 grand depending how fast i drive (100-120km/h) a long trip at these speeds does help the motor as it helps blow any shit in it out of it

Long distance miles are best mainly for 2 reasons 1) engine is not start/drive/stop - short trips kill engines because like your favourite oil commercial says "most engine wear occurs at start up". 2) Engine is running at easy, open throttle and no fueling up happens (probably not important with modern factory or well calibrated fuel injection).
My car sees 4000 + every day for about 30 mins, tear down looked like a Mobil 1 commercial minus 1 x Peter Brock.
P.S if your tacho reads 3xxx, it is probably stuffed and should be replaced immediately with an Autometer moster tach. (JK)

Yeah I was just asking guys thanks for the help! It just seems my car is revving heaps high but really I think it is the lack of sound proofing in my lil sprinter. My dads car however can't even hear anything over 130+

Not to Hijack the thread but what about the other way around.
I have a tendancy to drive at 70-80 with the engine revving at 1000-1100 rpm is this unnessicarily loading the engine/using more fuel or should I kick back a gear and sit around 1400 rpm?

I think 1-1400 rpm is quite low going at 70-80 km I think I am going around 2000 at least in 5th going around that speed. In my opinion I think you should drop it a gear since it might be stressing your engine. However you will saving fuel if your in the higher gear.

Yeah Ta... It's a bad habit I've gotten into.
I should also mention that it is a 6 speed V8 so it revs low any way (1500 @ 110km/h 6th gear) But then again it is only a Holden.
