Can anybody tell me the difference between a 5ME and a 5MEU, and yes I did search.

What'd you want to know? After driving both, there is no comparison. The 5MGE seems like a much more eager engine. It has roughly 130kW as opposed to 103kW and it feels it.

I just acquired a 1984 MA61 with a 5MEU, my 1983 is a 5ME, I assume it's standard.

ive seen the odd 5meu lurking in a cressida, but ive never looked too hard at the models or level of spec 
in summary, difference between the two is four fiths of fuck all

The "U" shows that it's got different *tighter* emission setup. Also I think, the "U" is a few figures lower in power then the non "U" motors coz of the emission setup...
