Sounds alright!
I've just bent an exhaust valve on my head. Would you know where I could find a valve for a early model 2TG, the 37mm valves. Otherwise looks like I might buy your head.
Thanks
Jason

Tyron,
I am selling the head as I am having my spare head ported much more aggressivly, The new porting will suit Big turbo applications only and the head place wanted to start with a virgin head. Not to mention the cost was the same either way so I will at least recoup some of my money.
4 of the guides were replaced when it was rebuilt. I honestly have no idea if they are bronze or not.
The springs are out of a Big N/A engine that I had. I don't have there exact ratings but they were tested to 500 tho lift with no problems.
Hope that helps,

G'day Rod,
Sounds good.
I am building up a twincharged 2TGEU. The boost will be around 15 PSI street and up to 25+PSI track (with a change of fuel). Asked about seat pressure as I dont want valve float due to high boost pressure combined with high RPM.
If they are a fair bit stronger than standard then that would be great.
Any chance of weighing the head?
I know the 18RG head (bare) just makes it under 20kg, therefore can use AUSPOST, sending valves etc separately.
Sounds like a very impressive engine you have on the build. What sort of power figures/track times you aiming for (or is that a secret)?
Celica23 - Where abouts are you?
I have a couple of early heads that are stuffed (corrosion), so might be able to get a valve for you.
Thanks all,
Tyron.

Tyron,
Mate I will be running a big Single ball bearing Turbo. I am chasing 200rwkw but hey we will see what happens. Anything over 170rwkw will be fine. I would like to see it in the low 12's at the very least.
The head in question has been flowed to deliver those sort of figures. The head rebuilder I used was told I would be running 25 PSI boost and said the springs would be fine as long as I stayed below 500 tho lift on the cams. I only have his word for that. Any decent engine builder should be able to check the seat pressures for you.
No worries at all on weighing the head. I just need to pick it up from where my car is and I will get a weight for you. I will be heading up there one night late next week all going to plan. Just to clarify, The head has been installed to the block but never run. It hasn't even had manifolds fitted to it.
Regards,
|

Thanks for that Rod.
Best of luck with the car. I dont doubt low 12s are within reach.
You have probably seen this car before:
http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/Pit/9191/ryance lica.html
I quite like it.
Celica73 - Just checked the head, it is an 88222. Unfortunately it has the 38.5mm valves. Checked on the 2TG Spotter's Guide, you have the 88220 head then?
Sorry about that. Surely someone has got to have an old stuffed head around somewhere!!!

Just out of interest Rod do the cams out of a 88220 head be the same for a 88261? As it's looking like i'm going to have to either get a valve made up or get a new head.
Thanks
Jason

Jason,
Mate the cams from the 88220 head will fit in an 88261 head. The profiles are different but they will fit. If you use the shims from your 88220 head it may not even need reshimming

Tyron,
In round figures the head weighs 18kg when wrapped in a bath towel. I'll bundle the little bugger up and check the weight again for you if you are seriously interested in buying it.
Otherwise I will leave it unpackage for now so it can be inspected.
Flem,
The head in question was ported by Ivan Clark in Albury Wodonga and he also organised the rebuild of it for me. The new valves etc was done for me at Trade rate and still cost me just over $800.
If your interested in getting similar port work done I would allow around $1500 and over, that does not allow for ANY parts.
This is not HUGE porting, it wasn't intended for massive lift cams or 9000 rpm gear changes. Yes it will suit much larger than standard lift butthe porting would be more agressive for sustained high RPM. (By high I mean 7500 RPM plus )

G'day Rod,
One last question, do you have any photos of the port work?
I am very interested in the head (like 99% want to buy it). I know AUSPOST will only accept packages up to 20kg, after that it would need to be couriered, that is why I asked about the weight.
The engine will be using the standard 88222 cams for the time being with a possible regrind once the engine is sorted (this is what I have been recommended by the cam specialist here).
I am planning to keep RPM at maximum of 7000RPM for longevity of the cast rods.
The engine will be twin charged (see other thread in tech conversions) with a T04B and an SC14. The engine is also a 2TG and not a hybrid engine. Only because when I bought the engine it already had near new forged pistons and I dont see the point in wasting good parts.
Hope that this clarifies a few things.
Thanks again Rod.
Tyron.

Tyron,
Mate I don't have a digital cam at the moment but will see if I can get someone to bring one to the Toymods meeting tomorrow night.
The porting is more focused on the exhaust side than the intake and the bowel area has been attended to to suit the heat of forced induction.
I will email you pics soon as I get some for you.
