Hello, actually asking this on behalf of a friend with a starion 5spd box that needs rebuilding.
We are thinking of attempting this ourselves. syncro on 2nd has gone and bearings a bit noisy.
Is this something that is possible to do if you have not had any prior experience with gearbox internals?
Any hints/tips?
Thanks Joel

If you can rebuild an engine, you should be able to rebuild a gear box with a bit of paitence.
Just take it slow, and take note of where it all goes when you take it apart. Having somthing like a Gregorys manual to see what it sould look like before you strip it is a good idea.
From tinkering with a gear box myself, i found it wasnt that hard as long as you kept things standard and took your time. Its just fiddly and time consuming. remeber to keep the work area clean!
Keep in mind, once you have it apart, you might find that to replace one syncro, it may be better in the long run to replace more thn just that syncro. Just depends waht it all looks like once its apart.
Good luck!
Craig.

a tip...
when you are putting it all back together make sure you have lots of vasoline, you can stick all the little needle rollers to their appropriate shafts by coating them all with it and just sticking them in place. When its all back together the vas' will heat up and disperse, being petroleum based it won't hurt anything.
and if you're really really happy with the way your gearbox went back together...............
