I am running an ems computer and want to convert to multible coils, i need an extra sync sensor to tell the comp when to fire the 1st coil.
What is the best way to do this,
can i use other dizzys say out of a 4agze etc and modify them to fit in, what have others done.
how about crank angle sensors on the pully
i am open to ideas
please help
cheers

How about using your original distributor and rotor button, then making a custom cap. The custom cap houses an optical sensor, positioned at the number one position (obviously no plug leads required). When the rotor passes through the optical sensor slit it produces the pulse required for the number one firing. Just have to make sure that optical sensor triggers before number one would fire and after number two fires.
You can still turn the distributor to get this bit right.
Take a bit of fiddling but is probably easier than modifying another distributor to fit.

Allright. I have had some success with my engine now.
Hopefully things will be on the up from now.
anyway to answer your question EMP-2TG.
My engine is a 2tgeu with forged pistons, o-ringed block, ported head, custom exhaust manifold (my first attempt at making one) ball bearing t3 turbo, s4 13b injectors, w58, Custom orange pearl paint, only in the engine bay at the moment with the original grandmar white outside (hence the sig of the wolf in sheeps clothing)
That is the most of it. im hopeing it will be on the road in the next 2 or so months.

u will also need an ems ignitor with 4 inputs/outputs
for the 4 coils
u cannot mount a sensor on the crank as it spins too fast
u need something that runs off the dizzy
and it needs one pulse every rotation of the dizzy
just send yr dizzy to an ems dealer
they should be able to sort something out
it will cost u about 150 maybe to sort the dizzy out
and the igntitors are 95 bucks i think

why not have a look at some of the m&w gear - they have ignitors which can be triggered from dizzys with either points (yuck) or hall sensors - http://www.mwignitions.com

Well ive given up on this for the short time, and ive gone back to a single coil.
After all the dramers ive had all ready i will get the rest of the engine sorted out b4 i go and create more headaches for myself.
Had a brief look at the M & W site, and they didnt realy have any sensors that i could see, i will have a better look l8r tho. Also one of the dramas i had was the car was hard to start which turned out to be the brand new M&W coils i had just purchased. So i will see how they go with explaining why i have a weak spark b4 i get any other sensors of them. they should be cool tho

I run a trigger disc off the crank pulley and the sensor is mounted using a bracket and existing timing cover bolt holes.

YelloRolla:
If i mount a sensor to the crank pully to tell the computer when to fire coil #1, that wouldnt give me a correct reading would it? because the dizzy rotates at 1\2 the speed of the crank. Correct me if im missing something
jessetamsett:
Yes mate i know it says that, the 'sheep in sheeps clothing' came around because the car has been a bit of a sheep with a grandmar exteria and the matching 2t auto heart,
Why it also says slowly recieving a "slowley recieving a wolfs heart" is as you can see in the ativar is that it is a bit more wolf like with the new engine and the extra power now unde there. So its not too much beer, just my weird was of looking at things. Hope it clears that up.

Every time I read something else about your car I wishI hadn't sold it, but anyway. Its looking good mate, really good.
For mine I run the triggers off the Flywheel and the inlet cam. I will be using the Autronic and Autroic CDI unit.

The trigger disc that I use has 1 x trigger for #1 and another 180deg opposite, it also has a reference trigger - so 3 x trigger points in total.

If your only using two coils then a crankshaft mounted trigger will be fine, but if you have four coils then you will need to run a trigger from the camshaft.

Ummm I like the work TA22_GT did on that, a job well done. Got some good ideas, Just need access to a lathe now, But for the time being i will have to put it on the back burner, as i said earlier i have gone back to single coils, because it seams that the m&w coils i have are not putting out enough spark, since pulling them of it could have just been a dodge earth, but i will worry about that l8r.
Rod,
How does a flywheel sensor mount, if you have any pics could you email them, would be interested to cee how that goes. Thanks for the compliment, it would to look good after the time i have put in it, i think i can see the light at the end of the tunnell, cant wait till i get in on the road properly.
