1JZGTE single turbo manifold, cheap! Thu, 06 May 2004 12:49 Go to next message
Hi guys

I originally purchased this manifold to use on my 1JZ. It is basically an adapter manifold from the stock manifolds to a CT26 turbo flange. A picture tells a thousand words, please see below. It's not the prettiest thing in the world but if you want something effective on a budget this will no doubt get the job done!

In addition I have a flange from an RX7 Series V turbo to go with it. This gives you a little choice as to what turbo you can run on it - I got a quote of $20 from an exhaust shop to change the flange over.

This kind of thing will be particularly useful if you:

* are fitting a 1JZ with clearance issues
* have blown up your twins
* want something different
* purchase a motor without turbos (as I did)
* like to collect little bits and pieces that may be useful one day

Both CT26's and Series V turbos are cheap (a few hundred bucks at most) and plentiful. They also have in common the fact that they can be highlowed rather cheaply and provide good power outputs (a friend has 250rwkw from a hiflowed CT26 on a 7MGTE).

Asking $170 firm, but may consider offers for a no-bullshit buyer prepared to pick up in Brisbane. Will ship at buyer's expense, in this situation price is not negotiable due to the extra running around on my part.

Cheers

Leigh

Did you ever get some of these made? I would sure purchase a few of them especially with a T3 or T4 flange.

Seeing as its sold I am now allowed to ask an irrelevant question. What turbo setup are you going to go with now?

OK edit I looked on turbosupras.com forum and got my answer:-)

It sort of answers your question and sort of doesn't. I was going to run that, but haven't heard boo back from him so it's still up in the air. Finally got the car towed away for the R&P swap on Saturday, it should be back in about 6 weeks so I can start plotting from there.

I bought it off you slylux, held onto it for a year gathering parts for single turbo conversion, and then on-sold it to Leigh! It's the "slut" manifold of toymods, getting passed around from one state to another!

It'd be better with a split-pulse divider down the middle of it to keep the exhaust gases flowing seperately and thus velocity high. Fairly easy to do with that manifold.

Good luck to the new owner - it's a great/cheap way to go single turbo.

I bought it off Leigh, then I sold it on EBAY about 2 months later when I found out a CT26 on a 1J is nearly going backwards from the twins. It went to a guy in WA or SA.

I was never going to put a CT-26 on it, but a hybrid turbo with a RX7 series 5 RX-7 exhaust housing, Sierra turbine wheel and big T04 front cover and compressor wheel - hence the RX7 flange. Not a bad option to get an internally wastegated, 500Hp turbo Smile

There's a bit you can do with that style of manifold, such as putting the split pulse divider in and changing the flange to suit a different turbo.

I ended up selling the car, so sold all the bits seperately. Still got a pair of stock 1jz exhaust manifolds left if anyone's interested...

yes, but it had the CT26 flange still on it, so thats what I was going to use it with.

Finally got it happening Leigh??? I've been chasing machined parts for my suspension for 4 months now, hate having people drag the chain... Off to exotic probably week after this one for a stint of work in there Smile

Yeah, it's finally getting there... long way to go yet. As soon as there's a bit of stuff dummied up in the car I hope to get some 'in progress' shots of the steering swap.

Does anyone know how an rx7 s4/5 turbo would perform on a 1jz?

Re: 1JZGTE single turbo manifold, cheap! Wed, 01 September 2004 23:27 Go to previous message
That's a good question. The series 5 turbo is better than the series 4 (bigger twin wastegates, less prone to overboosting) however in std form probably be a bit laggy, since it's desgined for high rpm with big exhaust flow from a rotary. Often when "high-flowed" for use in a rotary they back-cut the exhaust wheel, making the even laggier on a small capacity piston engine like the 1jz. But... there S5 turbo shares a lot of similar parts to a T04, so you can change turbine wheels (hint - try a ford Sierra wheel if you can get one), compressor wheels and compressor housings over to different T04 ones. Get the setup right and it's peform pretty well - giving you a large turbo that's still internally wastegated which is a bit cheaper. I wish I'd got the bloody thing on my car and found out!
