change of engine serial number

i am just wondering what is involved in legalising a car if you have changed the serial numbers, but have replaced it with the same block? engineering?
the reason i ask, i have 2 3tc blocks i can build a 2tg hybrid on
#1- take out the block in the car at the moment and build from that, with the car not running for a few weeks, but have the same serial number
#2- build from my spare 3tc block, this way i can almost complete the engine without touching the one in my car one bit, but this would mean i have a change of serial number.

There is no problem changing the engines. Just go down to the RTA and tell them the engine has been replaced and supply the new numbers.
Simple.

being a more powerful engine, isnt there more envolved?
engineering or something?
or because its just a different head, is it legally the same engine?

The head and the internals dont come into it. The blocks are the same and thats all that matters.

It is that easy.Just go and get a blue slip from a servo that does them (not all can) and take it to the RTA and fill out the change of details form I think it is and you're done.
