icon7.gif  cressida factory audio question Mon, 26 August 2002 12:40 Go to next message
just wondering what sorta standard setup the cressy (1990) has in it (too slack to pull everything apart to check before the upgrade)
looks like it's :

6 inch in the front doors
1 inch in the dash (looks like it will take 4 inch tho)
6 inch in the rear parcel shelf
can someone confirm this for me? just in case it's something stupid like 5 1/2 or 6 1/2, thats all...
thanks Smile

The cressie has an awfully complex system...I've doco'd it on my web site...
I've almost finished building a completely new system for my car so I can help...

Front
2x 5 inch speakers in the doors.
2x 1 inch split tweeters in the dash

Rear
2 6 1/2 inch speakers ..i think...(Was a while ago i did the back)

The system is about 15-20W per channel...the speakers are rated at 20W...

Hope this helps...

Or go here for other info...mainly to do with removing it.

thanks - nice site BTW Smile
that autoshop is a good link too, i think i still have a couple of those toyota technical training manuals in my cupboard from when i was a toyo tech, brings back old memories (not good ones tho!!!)
i was thinking along the lines of:
:retain origional deck (just LOVE that preset button!)
:upgrading rears with higher quality 6" (well, 6 1/2's now) running off the head unit head unit

:4 channel amp, 2 channels to feed:

upgrade splits (can a 5 1/2" or 6" speaker fit in the hole??)
and bridge remaining 2 channels for a 12 inch sub...

:FM modulated stacker (i take it the grandes that had CD were a different unit with more buttons - it was 5 years ago that i was a toyo apprentice, so i can't remember - Smile )

obviously not competion standard, but i just want abit more poke Wink

Thanks.

I've put in a JVC head unit, and Although the factory unit sounds great, aftermarket sounds awesome. BTW, there is a way to directly wire into the amplifier and use it with a "blank" cd and playback without having to modulate it, I did it for six months with just a discman wired in. Although this is a little dodgy helps keep the sound quality up...Only problem is the preset/volume/mixing controls are bypassed this way. If you are searching more about it, I found that the mr2 has a similar system somewhere along the lines. And I wouldn't try to get a Cressida CD player second hand if you're thinking it, the motors for the cd spinner wear out and dont spin properly after a while.

cheers...fRebs

my friend almost has that combo in his cressida - he has a 12" in the boot powered by a 2ch (bridged to one) amp - uses the stock head unit and speakers and an FM modulated CD stacker - sounds great, sure not comp spec but who cares still does the job!

In one of these documents 'OBDII - Data Interpretation' the text refers to appendices A&B which contain definitions and specs of the actual data.

Do you have these documents or do you know where I can obtain them. I am particularly interested in the OBD1 data formats.
