HELP!!!!
Im about to buy a 1988 Supra twin turbo (2 litre), for $10,500, but i was doing some research and it looks like i can get a 3 litre twin turbo 1988 with a targa top for $2,500.
What should i do, and does anyone know of a good importer right here in brisbane?
Cheers

"1988 Supra twin turbo (2 litre), for $10,500"
that doesn't sound like much of a good deal, unless the car is in expectionaly good condition, The 2 litre engine would be the 1g-gte for the money you should be able to land a nice 2.5lt 1jz-gte or a 3.0lt 7m-gte.

At $2500 the final price registered and on-road here in Australia will work out around $6500. Other costs include 10% GST, 15% duty, shipping about $800, degass of a/c about $200, wharf and customs charges about $500 plus broker fee. When it gets here you will also need to fit side intrusion bars, child restraints, unleaded filler neck and fit a flat mirror on the drivers side (in place of the convex mirror). All that usually works out to about $1000 depending on the enginner and how much you are willing to do yourself. Also add another $350 for gassing with 134a.
Importing and registering a Jap import is not as cheap as people first think!

Grant is spot on. My GZE AW11 that I bought over was $5200 on the road with 12 months rego. I went through all the steps that Grant has listed. The whole process takes around 3 months from finding a car in japan to putting the rego plates on australia. If the car is 15 years old that is.
Do some research through DOTARS. It is a gamble though, trusting the exporter. who is like 20000 klms away. But in the long run it pays off. Make sure you get your import approval before the car arrives at the dock or youre car will be CUBED!
