Do I have to go back onto my P's????

Hey guys I am a couple of months from getting my licence back after a long 3 year ban for drink driving,,in typical useless gimp like form from the RTA and VIC roads neither can tell me straigh weather i have to go back onto my P's or back onto my blacks, when I lost it I was on my blacks for about 3 years,I have found out that if you loose your licence for anymore than 2 years in Syd you have to go back onto your P's but in Melb wher I live now its three years, however even if I get my licence down here they have to follow the SYD rules as that is where the offence occured,I have also been told that I will get my full licence back...once again the RTA have proven that they are an equal opportunity employer trying to give BOWEL BABIES a chance at a normal life....
If anyone has ben in the same stuation and can tell me the real answer I would greatly appreciate it...as it will help me decide weather to sell my 3tgte TA22 that has cost me about 20k to date,as I dont see the point driving the thing with only 4 points for 3 farken years!!!

Me too.
November for me. So I can't tell you the answer, but i can tell you this. I'm in Sydney, and have a letter from the RTA dated 15/12/01 saying:
"If you wish to resume driving once your period of disqualification expires, you must attend a motor registry and complete a licence application form. You will need to provide proof of identity documents and pass a knowledge test of the road rules. If your licence has expired or you were disqualified for two years or more, you will also be required to pass a driving test. You will be issued with the same type of NSW licence that you held when the disqualification was imposed. However, unrestricted licence holders will not be eligible to obtaina gold licence"
This would, surprise surprise, contradict the information you have been given.
In another section it mentions that if you hold a licence from another state, and your disqualification was imposed by a NSW court "you will need to contact the licensing authority in you rhome state and make arrangements to surrender the licence" (not that that helps much)

Nicked is correct. I just got mine back after 12 mths off. Straight back on no questions but I got the same details for the other terms.
Bad news is after only one month I'm on a voluntary 3 mths off after an accident and hitting a cyclist that looks to medically caused .
Good news is there is no legal problem because it's medical, bad news is my carrerr is shot.

So this knowledge test, it was on a computer etc, 50 questions or something, ie it was an L's test?
Was hoping for something not so finnicky so I could avoid reading 'the book'. Any thoughts?

well i have just got my licence back and in queensland if you are just suspended and no court hearing was needed you go straight back on to your licence where u left off..i had 2 mths of my p's left so when i got my licence back i am on my p's for 2mths. I assume for a 3yr ban you went to court and will most likely start you p's again. thats how it works in qld or the way it was explained to me anyway. Hope that helps.

yeh unfortunately there is a massive difference between getting a one year ban to three,,I am mentally preparing for them saying Ill have to go back onto my P's, from the judge getting the sentence wrong to it going back to court without my knowledge and me getting the third year thrown on,to the hassle from the RTA trying to make me pay the 4k fine twice,i really dont have much faith in somthing falling my way......

I agree with you. I wish getting a licence was as simple as paying a fee and having my photo taken. We'd be better nation of drivers for it.
Who needs to know the road rules anyway......

how they thought putting p platers on for 3 years would affect anything has me stuffed.....
i believe it should be compulsary to do tests of a night,on a freeway, and in the wet either caused by nature or a man made wet track...

What's the minimum distance you can park from a post box? Unless you did your 'knowledge' test yesterday, I doubt you know the answer. Neither do I. I also don't think it makes squat difference to anyone's ability as a driver. That's the sort of shite i don't feel like memorising. I've been exposed to the rules of the road for the last 3 years, just like everyone else, and know them much better than most of the %!$#^ I see daily. Look around you on the roads - it's obvious anyone can rote learn. There must be another way - not for me, for everyone.
The driving test is obviously required - 3 years is a long time. I'd be more than happy to do time on L plates & be put through the wringer in various conditions and situations to ensure I'm a decent driver by the time I return to a full licence. Whether or not the current test fits that idea is a different point.
rvrolla
so do I. It's a selfish, disgusting crime, not much different to waving round a loaded gun in a crowded room - drunk. I'd hazard a guess that riceburna73 thinks something similar too. I suppose you love every aspect of yourself and dont regret anything you've ever done - especially after several too many? I did the crime, I've (almost) done the time.

No not at all, but I have never contemplated driving whilst drunk. I know that even when I am full up on liquid confidence that it is just fucking stupid. Sorry, but I am not havin a go at you and riceburna, but you are right with your first comment, it is a disgusting crime.
I just hope that :
- You learnt your lesson
- And most of all, you didnt hurt anyone except your guilt!
That is all.

WEL I have some good news, I finally got through to an RTA employee without two bungholes and a deformed head and he advised me while I will have to do all the necessary tests again I will go back onto my blacks after completion...you little ripper...
rvrolla, while I am not going to try and defend my actions of driving drunk and subsequently driving without a license as I knew at the time it was stupid. What I do have a problem with is the fact I would have learnt the same lesson with 1 year, nobody thankfully was hurt and no property damaged. I was picked up by cops calling on the next door neighbors domestic while they saw me get out of the car, traveling the length of my street home...STILL STUPID I UNDERSTAND.. To be honest it has been the best learning curve of my life, I landed a job in sales recruitment in Sydney and was earning over 100k a year, and a year ago moved to Melbourne to set up my own company...without this happening I wouldnt have achieved these things...however I could have, like a lot of other people lost a good job and fallen into serious depression, and subsequently lived off the government,,,this is where I see the punishment of anything over a year stupid for offenses within this category..If the other laws made sense I wouldnt have a problem but they dont! And are generally draconic..I have placed roles within the RTA and dealt quite extensively with their senior management, and the general way of thinking is not only very sheltered but quite backward. This is where my frustration stems from.
