AE111 differential into AE92 5 speed - possible?

Hi all. I just bought an AE92 twin cam. I'd like to fit an LSD to go with the suspension I'm about to fit (K mac springs, swaybars and koni adjustables) and as I have a friend with an AE111 box and diff, I'm wondering whether the AE111 LSD can be used in a 5 speed casing from an AE92. Please forgive me if this is a stupid question.
Cheers,
Ben

Why not just swap the entire gearbox and diff? That way you won't have to take it apart and you'll know that it works.

Because the gearbox is totalled. The diff may be okay and thus a viable and inexpensive option.
Plus it's more than a few mods to put an AE111 gearbox is an AE92.

Not knowing what kind of gearbox you have now, I can't really say. Do you have the transaxle codes for both?
Also, try asking this question on www.twincam.org.

is the AE111 box a 6-speed?
if it's not, it bolts straight in, no mods required. it will be a C56.
It's pretty easy to fit a 6-speed aswell, and they are a nice box to have in an ae92.

Damn. It's a six speed AE111 box as I said. What other options do I have for an LSD with an AE92 keeping the 5 speed?

I have heard but I cant confirm that the LSD from the C160 will fit into the C52/C56.
Take note that not all the 6-speeds have LSD, some people think they do. If the owner of the box has the transaxle ID from the car the 6-speed came from it's pretty easy to tell if it has LSD or not.

I still haven't got the transmission codes, but I do know it's an LSD as it's from a racing car that ran a TRD LSD
I will most probably just try and fit it to accertain whether it fits or not - can't hurt.

Ben
