icon1.gif  to front mount or not to frount mount???? Tue, 27 August 2002 06:00 Go to next message
hi guy's,

currently rebuilding the 4agze and close to putting it in, i have dilemma on my hands here, was speaking to a guy from a workshop about front mounting my VR4 intercooler and he mentioned that it is probably better to leave the top mount on and cut a hole on the bonnet as it has a shorter inlet tract to the throttle body,

now, we all know that front mounts are good but what are your thoughts on this for the 4agze??

any help would be great, thanks in advance.

My opinion is front mount. Although if u're running stock boost then theres really no point in doing custom pipe work that will increase lag and create a hole in u're pocket.
Just remember that a intercooler sitting on the top of a motor which has a scoop is great whilst moving, but when still the motors' heat goes straight up through the cooler and out the scoop. u're choice, but i'd leave it standard if u're leaving it standard, but if u're after more boost and horespower, transplant it to the front.

My humble opinion.
Thanks
Ben

top mounts arn't that bad with scoops but for when your not moving at any great speeds and the heat is building up then its good to have water spray jets to spray the intercooler with a fine mist of water which helps reduce the temps

MRT Performance makes the spray jets if you are interested.

thanks for your opinions there,

yes i will be running a bigger pulley, most likely Nevo or a Jap kit if i can get it later on, i'll leave it standard for now.

also, what size piping should i run for the intercooler, should it be 2" or 2.5" mandrel bent piping??? regarding BOV's are they a necessity???

thanks in advance...

You could try finding some silicon hoses for the right price!
In my opinion these are better than metal piping! They dont always look as good but they dont transfer heat or any shock from the motor down to the intercooler!
