Hey,
How do you strip paint from plastic car bits like bumpers etc ?
I've been to a few auto parts stores and all they have is paint stripper which is intended for wood & metal and NOT for plastics.
I don't wanna try it as it may melt it.
How do the spray painters do it?
Is there a special paint stripper?
or do I just sand it all back and spray primer then paint ?

MaNGeW, Your best bet is to have the bumper bead blasted! Removes the paint without stuffing the substrate. If you sand plastic,if becomes furry , and becomes a bitch to paint, as the little tufts of plastic continue to stick up through the primer, and then into the topcoat. Panel shops in general, exchange most bars with a company that repairs them off site. Exchange bars come primed ready for top coat.
regards Chuck.

Thanks Chucklandwehr,
Hmmm well being a cheapskate im gonna try use some multi purpose thinners and a rag... see how i go....
if not i was gonna sand it back by hand but as u said...
"If you sand plastic,if becomes furry , and becomes a bitch to paint, as the little tufts of plastic continue to stick up through the primer, and then into the topcoat. "
So I guess, my best bet is probably forking out cash to get a professional to have the bumper bead blasted!
Hence "removing the paint without stuffing the substrate."
Prob get em to paint it too I guess...
Anyone here a panel beater from Sydney who looks after forum members ?
