1992 T/T Soarer's Light Steering - How to fix?

My '92 twin turbo soarer has always had relatively light steering, but recently I swapped over from generic branded 235/45/17's to Dunlop FM901's of the same dimensions and the car now steers like soap and tracks left or right badly following any deviations in the road's surface. Admittedly I was only running 34 psi on the old tyres and the dealer when fitting the Dunlops recommended and inflated them to 40 psi as they said the lower pressure I was originally running contributed to their early wear.
Has anyone else out there experienced anything similar on a Soarer? Any fixes you can recommend to help a brother out...?

Proper way: Order Steering ecu from TRD.
Temporary/try at your own risk/dont yell at me way: Disconnect wire at steering rack, drive and verify steering is heavier. Not 100% certain, but older Toyota's worked this way.
Good luck. Let us know...

Steering ECU is a blue box on the aircon unit behind the glove box if you want to disconnect it. Soarers run speed sensitive steering - put it in "trackday" mode for heavier/high speed steering and test the difference. Check ALSC or LSOC for trackday mode setup. Are you sure the light steering is the cause of your tracking? Most Soarers that suffer from tracking are either as a result of incorrect Geometry setup, incorrect wheel offset or worn Front lower control arm bushes which tend to deteriorate with age and milleage. I too thought my steering was dodgy. It progressively improved to a neutral state as I got a wheel alignment, went to right offset (+45mm) and changed the lower control arm bushes on advice from longtime LSOC and ALSC members.

negative caster tends to make the steering very light, as well as having front tyres track the road, have your alignment checked, but be careful, as most alignment "specialist" knows nothing about alignment, they just look up numbers from books and tables and tries to set the values back to "OEM" specifications and most of the time these values are WRONG.. if your car is not pulling, just get your alignment guy to set the caster evenly towards positive on both sides, that should fix up the problem.. (hope it helps, but I'm not sure if the same theory applies to power assisted steering?)

This is just the kind of info I was after, so thanks guys for your input.
I'll post a response once I've checked out your recommendations and let you know what worked best to solve the problem.
I guess if service manuals were available (in english) for my manual twin turbo, I'd be able to trouble-shoot the problem myself and wouldn't have to trouble you-all for your input, so thanks again.
Cheers...

Not having english service/repair/reference manuals is part of the joy of owning an import - best way to learn more about your car is to get in there and see for yourself.

Tyre choice is also important.
I have Falken GRB's on the front of mine and have the same problem. Stiff sidewalls and flat directional tread patterns dont work on QLD roads. tyre manufacturers are now coming up with tyres to suit, Dunlop's LE MANS LM702 would probably have been a better choice.
Still chase the wheel alignment etc. but if the only change from the old tyres to now has been the 901's, they will get a bit better as the shoulders wear but will never be perfect.
Tyre Guys and Wheel Alignment Guys are all the same now, selling from a catalog without any real knowledge of your vehicle or your intended useage.

don't want to start a big discussion.. But even if those guys know your "intended usage" they still don't have the "knowledge" to help you! And those that have some (or little) "knowledge" will charge you heaps coz they think they know a lot!
