microtech d5, crap? Tue, 11 May 2004 09:43 Go to next message
hey fellas, i should probly know this but im to young to have ever seen a d5 before and i just got one off bill.s and im hearing bad reports. im not complaining cause it was sort of thrown in with some other bits but im just wondering wether its worth the hassle of wiring it up. im running carbs on a red top 4ag with a few mods and 88.3kw at the wheels and its not bad except for occasional stutters in really cold weather etc. should i go to quad throttle with the d5, stick with carbs or buy another ecu?
whats the general experience from guys who've used the d5?

Agricultural is a word that springs to mind. They do work, (engine starts, runs etc) but tuning is not "state of the art".
I would not bother.

I wouldn't touch it with a 500,000 km long pole.... Stick with the carbs mate.

wow that was quick, cheers fellas.
i have a set of quad throttles and injectors plus all associated sensors etc. which is why im thinking about it, plus i can keep my manifold an linkage from the webers. if the d5 is rubbish what would be a good fuel only ecu?, or are the gains of going to fuel injection going to be splitting hairs anyway?

Do some research on the different systems available. You will definately get better economy and drivability/response with injection, but just get something half decent (not a D5) and get it tuned properly. I guess you would be looking at a minimum of a grand.

d5's are very average mate, dont waste our time, you may get it running but it will never run well,

get a fuel and ign, the 4age's respond to ign timing very very well!

if you want a fuel only find a digi 1 or MT4, these can be found for a few hundred
