i always liked the lady who was fined for doing 160kmh - in her datsun 120y which wouldn't even DO 160kmh! - they even tested it (under controlled conditions) and the thing would do a max of like 120kmh or something.
speed cameras accuracy is something to be questioned. every time in the morning i see the darn ones go off on the westgate bridge when i go past and i'm sitting just under 80kmh (as my speedo will be out even though my car is new) and i've never received a fine...

One of my mates knows how to beat the system. Apparently if there is a fixed speed camera, there must be 3 signs posted "Speed Cameras In Use" or whatever otherwise you can contest it. If there are 2 warning signs, it doesnt apply, if there are 4 it doesnt apply. Only every 3 signs is allowed to have 1 camera.
Also, if there are patrol cars checking speed, they MUST be visible from the road.
Thats my 2cents worth...

It was a week ago..it was in Victoria...the cameras were proven as defective and more than one..16? I think they said .The Vic Govt has to pay back over $5 mill..They even got the State Premier...a real showpony if there ever was one .to make the announcement..he did it like he was doing the fined motorists a favour...I would have said he was just an a'hole but thats not fair to a'holes because even a'holes are useful for something..

I read somewhere, from a legal standpoint, as they cannot prove that you were in the car, you can sigh a statutory declaration stating that you don't know who was driving the car at the time. As far as the australian legal system is concerned, speed cameras are unjust as you are deemed guilty and must prove yourself to be innocent.our system is supposed to be based on the innocent till proven guilty mentality with the burden of proof resting on the prosecution, not the accused...
