MX83's gave a G series diff. Potential G series LSD donor cars included Hilux, Hiace, MA70 Supra, MZ20 Soarer and MX83 Cressida Grande.
As for cost, that's highly variable but I recently heard of Hilux LSD's going for as little as $400 from a wrecking yard in Brisbane.

Norbie will any of these other than the mx83 grande diff bolt in???
or is it simply an internals swap .
do you know if any of them came in 3.7
id like to change ratios in the cressdia to 3.7 .increasing the tyre size to the equivalent ratio worked a treat but looked stupid embarrasing in fact .like an 80's rear jack pack
P.S a mate has for sale a 2JZ auto box and ecu these are supposed to be almost bullat proof . you probably love your manuals but its an option for your gearbox probs

Locally-delivered MA71 turbo (auto trans) have a 3.7:1 ratio. You'll have to do an internals swap for any of the above diffs apart from the Grande one.
As for the auto, not until I'm in my 40's thanks. I'm currently searching for a 6-speed, that will solve my problems nicely.

Thats wierd I thought all MA70 tubro's manual or auto came out with LSD's. Mine has an open diff. Then again worn out LSD's act like an open diff?
Kristian is selling a JZA70 LSD center for $400, that should be compatible with my casing. Then again i don't know didly squat, better hit the search button, but anyone feel free to answer, save me alot of time sifting thru old posts.

LSD was standard equipment on local MA71 turbo's. If yours is an import it could have anything. Check your build plate if you're not sure.
Yes the JZA70 diff will fit in your casing; all G series diffs are interchangeable.

A cautionary note: the Hilux centre may be a little tricky getting into the IRS housing.

Have you been living under a rock? I broke the W58 at least 3 months ago, then I broke a W57, and now I have another W57.

Argh. They are all G series.
Apparently, there are subtle differences with the housings such that a Supra limo will not just bolt into the Cressida diff cradle. Swap the centres over - it's an $80 proposition at any diff shop.

Actually I noticed the MX83 cradle looks heaps different to the MA71 cradle from the outside, but it never occured to me there might be internal differences to make life difficult. More than likely it's just different carrier bearings though; I know this is the case when you put a Hilux F-series centre in a MA61 cradle.
Darkstar, I already answered that question. Read the thread again!

Sorry Norbie, I just meant the the whole thing as opposed to the centre - the centre should just swap (same everything).

I've seen lots of Hilux diffs with 4.875:1 gears. I think 5.3:1 gears are also available in some models.

I have to disagree with this Norbie. Phil (Traction_issuse) tried to get a torsen center from a JZA70 fitted to his hillux carrier and it couldn't be done, the crown was in a different position (pinion offset was different). I have his torsen center at home and will try fitting it to the Cressida carrier someday.

Ma61 Supra would be your best bet for an F-series LSD.

I *may* have mine for sale in a month or two
MA61 LSD rebuilt 3 years ago.
Only 30k(ish) km since rebuild, will know exact kms when I get home and look at receipt.
Not sure if the 4.1 gears will be for sale with it tho.
Will know later
But as JCMF said, MA61 Supra's are your best bet (straight bolt in), unless you wanna be like us and order a Torsen LSD from the states.
