cheap stuff at auto one, cars does at least 50km a day and it made it down to melbourne in a day and back to sydney as well with engine running non stop for 3 hours plus and then when it did stop it was only for 15min while getting fuel. and that was in january and didn't have a single overheating problem at all so i can't see anything wrong with good old auto1 coolant

toyota genuine coolant is the best, better than any other coolant apparently but doesnt do as well as it should due to people avoiding it becuase they associate red with poor cooling, or so ive heard.

Holden using Toyota stuff, not suprising.
Look's like I will be wasting the expensive stuff I got to set up engine and running back in, then move to Genuine Toyota.

A few years back i had a 1990 2.4L petrol FourRunner Hilux-22R motor, milage around 150k, suffering from loss of coolant in the head/overheating. After pulling off the head, found waterways corroded badly, leaking into pots. I got the head welded up and planed by a head reco mob, who said at the time he got a lot of business with this fault from the local Toyota dealer. The old mechanic who was helping me said this was a typical problem with alloy heads being used with special coolant. He recommended clean water as coolant, theres no corrosion problems.......

Hmmmm... i think wouldve tried like every cooland under the sun.. I am now using that Nulon 250,000km stuff.. Its hella expensive but nulon stuff has a pretty good rep and this stuff is apparently the shit. The reason im using that.. Has anyone every changed coolant in an Mr2?? Its a real pain in the ass.. If i get 100,000 k's from this stuff ill be very happy..
Oh and as for the clean water? I do believe this will cause corrosion.. Oh and dont park your car in the snow if your gonna do that..

isn't it the impuritys in water that cause corrosion? so therefor using distilled water it should be fine,
like pure water doesn't conduct electricity its the impurities in it that does

I don't know if I can give our Company site address, but this is too important not too. I've been following the forums for months & seen a heap of wrongs with intercoolers etc. but stayed out of it - this is going to cost some of you allot of money within a couple of years if you don't look after your cooling system properly. Check out our Horror Pics page @ www.are.com.au. there's a bunch more pics I could add You have too run an inhibitor. Distilled or deionized water forms & transports electrolysis (an electrical reaction)by flowing over dissimilar metals & there are approx. 6 in the '85 on cooling systems. Mix different brands/types of inhibitors & you may get a chemical reaction. Electrolysis corrodes the metals, whereas chemical can either/or corrode or form deposits. In our workshop we either fit genuine, one of 6 Tectaloys after proper cleaning procedure if not known previous inhibitor, or if people won't pay for that & don't know what was in there for previous 12 mths. we fit water & mark invoice accordingly. If we mix 2 Tectaloy's with other 4 there will be a definite chemical reaction, probably enough too block tubes inside 12 months. Toyota inhibitor is really good, especially at containing stray current, but thats another story.

Hi, Could you please tell me where is located drain plug on the block of 7M engine? In the owners manual there is rather vogue picture indicating location somewhere in the top of the block in the r/hand side (EFI SIDE) but I could not find. Draining radiator gets out about 3 liters and the cooling system capacity is about 8 liters. Regards Greg Anybody has MX83 factory manual? Will buy
