Public transport - mainly in the way or trains - is pretty good and you can almost always get close to where you need to go with them.
The last little bit usually has to be done either by lots of walking or by taxi. Taxi's are very expensive ...
Finding where to go is also very hard, for example there's often a neat little picture at the bottom of the good adverts for car shops in the magazines, but trying to actually find them by using that map is rather hard indeed.
I spent a couple of years going there and got a little better at it.
I found it easier just to find the bits I wanted in a magazine, get the hotel staff to order it over the phone for me, then pop on down to the bank with someone from the hotel, and they'd put the right amount of money into some sort of ATM thing. It's take the money, spit out a reciept, and the next day a box would show up with the parts in it.
Much easier, though it didn't get you outside much.

I can't remember how much things cost, but it's very expensive.
I guess a lot of things like food would be about five times the price as they are in Aus.
(might be well out on that guess)
