Injectors: Impedence Wed, 12 May 2004 15:51 Go to next message
hey guys, need some help here

i'm in the process of building up a 86kw 4age. i've been given some injectors that were off a celica and from what they look like on this site http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/Pit/9975/dataBy Subject/Injectors.html they are 295cc with 13.8ohm resistance. From what i can see my 4age injectors are low resistance and these are high. is there any way i can use them with such a difference in resistance?

cheers.

do the 86kw 4AG's run a resistor pack for the injectors??

if so then you should be ok...

for some reason, many OEM setups have low impedance injectors, but run them with resistor packs so that the ECU doesn't need to run PWM....

you can't directly run high impedance with an ECU designed for PWM. basically.

The MKIII supra has a similar setup with a resistor running in line with low impedance injectors. If you remove the resistor, theoretically, it should run the same.

Actually it may not as high and low impedance injectors are designed to be controlled by two different injector drivers. The low impedance injectors are run with a peak and hold driver and the high impedance are run by a peak only style driver in the ECU.

The thing is you can run a high impedance injector with a low impedance injector driver, but not the other way around.

all amps are approximate Wink
low imp (2ohms) peak and hold = 4A spike and 1A to hold
high imp (12ohms) = 1A continuous

if you put high imp into peak and hold, you have 1/6th the current going thru them...

so they may open with the spike (.67A) but may close after (0.17A)... so they may either be lazy or not work.

then again, you're prolly not going to blow the ECU by running high imp injectors peak and hold..

the other way, you have 6 times as much current = bad for the ECU's FET's Shocked

get a megasquirt, it does both types Razz heh heh Very Happy
