Hi people,
I have Toyota Corona,Auto,Rt104,2000 Model(1977,I think).
Is it possible to install a turbo to this engine?
I am unsure if it has single or twin carbies.
All replies/info appreciated.

It is possible to put a turbo on any engine. Hell, you can turbocharge your lawnmower if you want to.
The question to ask is, is it worth the time and cost involved? The answer in this case is no IMO. Turbos and carbies generally aren't happy together.

You pay someone lots of money... thechuckster can give you a $$ figure.
At a quick guess itll be easily over $1500.

If this is the current extent of your knowledge with regards turbocharging and general mechanics, I'd suggest you go to the library, use the internet and read as much as you on this topic can so you are more familiar with what's involved with turbocharging an engine. Then you will know why it's a bad idea to muck around doing trying it to an 18R-C.
If you want a turbo engine, buy one that is already equipped with one from the factory. It'll cheaper and much less painful -
Profit from thechuckster's experience and don't bother!

how much?
<http://members.optushome.com.au/mkhala/red_celica/ budget.html>
and add up the sections on:
-TURBO INSTALL & SETUP
-RECO ENGINE, CLUTCH & TAILSHAFT
-ENGINE/EXH/MECHANICAL PARTS
but in a nutshell, you have to:
reduce the compression down to under 7.5:1 - safest way is for an engineer to machine out the head - a spacer plate between block & head might help but you'll be restricted to boost of say 5-7psi to avoid blowing gaskets and be more prone to pinging and detonation
make custom manifolds for exhaust and intake
decide how to fuel it (and after my last effort to drive in it, i'd strongly advise EFI - which involves even more custom stuff like injector ports, plenum, throttle body, etc)
decide what engine management is needed (ingition and fuel)
upgrade the cooling
upgrade the clutch and probably rebuild/refresh the gearbox
consider upgrading your brakes
OR.... get an already turbo/efi engine (18RGUE? 3T-GTE? 4AGTE? ...) and transplant it.
If you're not comfortable about DIY stuff, then take the easy road...

Yes id advise not going the 18rc turbo or even 18r-e unless you have already had alot of stuff done as chuckster has...Ive done some reasearch and the price is just outrageous and it would be better spent on a 18rgeu at least..

I would say if your going EFI leave the compression at the stock 8.5:1 - spacer plates often cause more grief then good when the mixtures are ok
