Suppressing radio interference Thu, 13 May 2004 10:03 Go to next message
Not really techy but..

My families 626 has static on the AM band which my mum always listens to. The antenna is connected etc..it is interference. The car has spark plug leads the say high suppression so I guess it shouldn't be those. Is there any other thing that can be done to fix it.

Or anyone know of good car audio place around Nthn beaches (Strathfield doesn't cut it)

Cheers

Is the base of the antenna earthed to the guard sufficiently? Is the plug inserted into the radio fully? Is the coax between the antenna and the radio in ok condition?
Have you replaced the suppressors that were fitted from the factory as they do fail after a while.
What kind of interference is it? What does it sound like?

Depends what sort of noise you're getting through the radio.

- If it's just static it's either a bad earth or there's a problem with the aerial (maybe not connected properly).
- If it's a ticking noise which increases with RPM it's ignition related, probably old spark plug leads.
- If it's a whining noise it's most likely the alternator.
