White smoke = steam/water

Blue smoke = oil

Have you blown a head gasket yet? Confused

If it's anything like my supra it will just be water in the tailpipe.

Where i live it gets pretty cold and damp during the night, and after a few days there is literally a litre or more of water sitting in the tailpipe, it all seems to catch in the cat converter.

I'll start the car, a puff of blue smoke will come out (just the valve seals, nothing major) then after abit of warming up the white smoke/steam will come pluming out, becuase the exuast heat is evaporating the water that's in there. A good 30min drive gets rid of it all and there is no visible smoke after that.
Usually takes a couple cold nights for it to happen again. I'm thinking off plugging the exuast up during these cold nights.

Maybe its a blueish sort of smoke. Im not loosing any water so I dont think its a blown HG "Better not be only done 200km on the existing HG". What could cause the blueish smoke? Motor has just been rebuilt.

If its blowing a blueish smoke Its usually worn or damage valve stem oil seals you can check to see if this is it by letting the car idle for a few minutes and then open the throttle if oil is getting past the valve steams a heavy discharge of blue smoke will be seen at the tailpipe but can't understand why this would be the case if its just been rebuilt? Confused

Recently my cars been puffing out white smoke, because lately its been pretty cold in melb. at night.
But a good way to differentiate between these two is:
White smoke evaporates quite quickly into the air,as it is water vapour.
where as
Blue smoke tends to hang around a while, is quite condensed and smells like shit.
Hope that helps Smile

easy way to tell is smell the smoke.. sure it's not bad if you do it all day, but you can quickly tell if it's water or oil smoke...

if it smells like a KB laser, it's oil Razz
