1UZFE to MA61 conversion - specific issue	Sat, 15 May 2004 02:54

A boss of mine recently sold his sprint Alfa after becoming completely frustrated with the lack of power and brakes. After a blat in the Corona of Death and seeing the 1UZ in the Crown, he'd like to drop a 1UZ into an MA61. Whilst I have most of the basics sorted (sump, bellhousing, ECU, mounts), I have one specific question: How far from the steering shaft (from the column to the rack) to the right bank of cylinders? Is there enough room for a decent set of mandrel bend extractors? Cruzsida, do you have any other pics of the clearances in your MX73? It looks tight, but I'd love another perspective. Cruzida is off in the mines for a while so may not frequent here alot currently GT. The one i saw there was SFA room for extractors, HOWEVER, Cruzida has been talking up plans for extractors, so he thinks its possible, but the steering rack clearance will be a bit of an issue. Toyospares is currently putting a 1UZ into an MA61. While there isn't a WHOLE lotta room for pipework, to my eye it looks like it's still possible with careful fabrication - drop in and look at it (tell 'em I sentcha ey!) [Report message to a moderator]

Dave, 3 of the 4 pipes will have to venture on the outside of the steering shaft. Only number 8 can go between the block and the shaft. I temperarially just took a chunk out of the headers to clear the steering, so I have less than 1"sq of flow there (yes, it sucks, but it was necessary) I definately plan to get extractors, and there is a dickload of room between the steering shaft and the chassis rails, which is where 3 of the 4 pipes shall go. However, the cost of extractors is guestimated to be around and over the $1500 mark, not including the rest of the system. If I get my car running on my first RnR, then I'll send my car to the exhaust shop to build the extractors while I'm up here again. As for more pics, check my thread, they are all there. I have no others though. Ask me in 3 weeks when I'm home, and I can take specific measurements and photos for you. [Report message to a moderator]
