Recomended mods from drifters Sun, 16 May 2004 03:08 Go to next message
I've decided to turn my ra65 into a drift car / daily and need to know what mods i should make to make it easier to drift.

Lowered + stiffened suspension goes without saying and i've already got an lsd but what else do you guys recomend?

Learn how to drive. From what I've observed this is the number one problem most wannabe "drifters" seem to have.

First things first, a white paint job with a black bonnet. This alone adds about 80kw at the wheels and gives you ultimate street cred.

well u two are a big help
how about u grow up for a second and not judge my driving ability esecially considering u've never even met, or seen me drive?
and fwiw i'll be keeping the drift aspect of my driving to the track

stick a punch cat sticker on

but in all seriousness

you want lots of camber on the front, you want as little body roll as possible. you want momentum transferred into the body swinging sideways not bodyroll. stretched out tyres on wider rims also helps by minimising sidewall flex.

Who was judging your driving ability? I told you to learn how to drive, and unless you're already the best driver in the world I reckon that's pretty valid advice.

Of course if you don't want advice that's fine, but you should stay away from public forums. Rolling Eyes

stiff suspension. hell stiff.

massivly hard spring rates and a decent swaybar front and back will provide much oversteer

LSD helps but isnt vital

nice sticky tires on fronts
semi sticky tyres on the rear

decent sports or better clutch

should get you started

oh and dony listen to shane about the black bonnet and white paintjob, hes just been watching too much inital d

right shane? Wink

low stiff springs are a good start. you already have an lsd and some good lowish profile wheels and tyres will help dramatically.

dont dis anyone that tells you to learn to drive since if you have to ask then you need practice. go to club4AG they have a series of articles on novice drifting where to start

grip and drift setups are hugeley different and if youve ever tried drifting then you should know what parts on your car are letting you down if u have even any clue on what your car is doing.

no offence i merely say it like i see it Smile

I'll second Norbie on that - people like SimonRX7 and MR2Drift do it well because they do it on a daily basis ... having the right gear assists but if you're a skillful driver, you'll be able to drift almost anything.

There is no such thing as an ultimate drift setting - it is more your ability to master your car.

i wasn't having a go at u, thought you were calling my normal driving crap under the assumption that i'd be drifting on the street.
And practice goes without saying,
What precautionary mods should i take to make sure i don't destroy my engine, pretty sure 22re's aren't meant to be kept above 3500rpm for long periods of time

oil cooler, electric thermos, get an oil pressure gauge and water temp to keep a better eye on things.
use good oil and change it regularly, just generaly look after it. if your really worried about it save some money and replace it with a better engine when it craps itself cos theres not much point in modding it (others may say otherwise) but by the time u actually kill it you should be a better driver (dori style) and capable of handling it
