Hey guys, I need the help of some fuel injection guru here.

I have just got my 1G-GTE celica rego'd and ive givin it its first tank of gas. Unfortunely Its drank the tank real quick. avaraging about 13L / 100kms and from what i have heard is a heap. Its standard, just bigger exhaust and pod filter. It has a 'popping' (missfire?) if i hold revs just above idle speed. And it seems to feel like its runnin outa punch above 5000rpm on full boost. (leaning out?)

It also has a strange idle problem, sometimes u pull up at the lights and its reving really high like its runnin with the choke on, reving about 1500rpm this comes and goes back to normal too, idling about 900rpm. This all leads me to think of a few things that could be wrong but i need some conformation.

1. Could the cold start injector be gettin stuck on or being switched on/off incorrectly. This could also expain the bad fuel consumption?

2. Vacume leaks?

3. Any other pointers would be great!

I am sorry that I don't know the answer to your problem but my old gz20 did the same thing with the high revving at lights and then it would idle strange and pop all the top on idle? I never did fix mine though, just sold it Smile

good luck

You could try the speed idle module in the plenum camber it my have carbin build up in it.Or check the plugs or even a new set wont go astray set them at about .08 thats was the trouble with my 1g seems to be going ok now.By the way who wired the car up for you. This may not help you but its some thing you can look at.
good luck with it.

I have EXACTLY the same problems, sometimes idles at 700 other times its 1500 and also lack of power above 5000rpm.
I know I have a crack in my intercooler outlet, not sure if that could cause it.
Ive changed lots of things and havn't found the problem yet.

Sounds like the ingition is retarded. Check the setting of the dizy - should be 10-12 deg advanced at idle. Also check your fault lights. The other option is one of the plugs have come off the knock sensors.

Failing that you may have a faulty fuel regulator, or blocked return line (Do you blow black smoke?). Check fuel pressure. If you are in town I have a fuel pressure gauge you can use.

If you need to discuss more give me a ring on 0413190752.

Jeez, sounds like a lot of people are having similar problems! Thanx for the replies i'll go and check all of those things out.

I wired up the engine and i know its right coz i got help from Ddean and he knows his 1G's!

Ddean:

G'day mate! Im commin back down there in a week, with the celica this time! More job hunting, so yeah id love to check the fuel press. Its gettin one error code, and from what i can tell its code 11 (flashes once, then once again) this is supposed to mean i have a severerance (however slight) in the b+ wire to the ECU? ...dont know how that could be!

Anyway, i tried to do the timing the other day coz i thought it could be this. Set it as much as i could to 'around' 10 btdc because at idle the timing is bouncing around about 2 degrees either side, no matter where its set at! ...Whats with that?

Also where are the knock sensors located?! ive checked all the connector plugs i can easily see.

Thanx guys! any more suggestions?

Knock sensors are on the side of the block under the inlet manifold.

Thanx Craig. i'll check that out tomorrow, looks like im gonna need a mirror to find those knock sensors!

Well i checked the plugs out, they were looking good so thats a relief, and like knackers said i gave them a clean and re-gapped them. Also pulled out the idle control sensor and cleaned a bit of gunk off the end of it. Seems to be reving better now and doesnt have that lack of power in the higher revs!

Still idles strangely when it begins to change between the open / closed loop modes. When it starts to switch over, the revs start fluctuating 100rpm or so up and down. Why could this be?

Nark we will hassle you when i get there! Razz

Dylo, i too have the same problem, soetimes it stalls at the traffic lights (i think its to do with voltage as it does it more at night when lights are on) sometimes at like 1500rpm

mine was running ruff a few tanks back, felt like the ignition was retarding bad, think it may have been bad fuel cause it has seemed to fix itself, oh i flushed the injectors too

Craigzee,

Yeah? More cases of this strange problem!

OK, How did u flush ur injectors, did u just get some of that injector cleaner and put in in your fuel? I just did that with mine, but dont know how effective this stuff can really be?
