Check the thermostat, it shouldn't be running that cold.

Yup, I've (still) got big temp gauge issues... Replaced sender, dash, etc. but it still starts off on cold, then about 30 seconds later goes to full roast position, and stays there. The engine is running at normal temp, the gauge goes down to cold if you pull the wire off, the sender (seemingly) checks out OK with a multimeter (I've replaced it 3 times, too), and if you leave the sensor out of the housing, just connect with to the wire with an earth clipped to the side of it, it reads cold (as it should!). Still got me buggered!

That sounds like a bastard mrshin.
Did you buy a new sender each time or from wreckers? How much are they? The sender is located in the side of cylinder head right?..it is essentially a sensor isn't it? Just had a look in a crappy haynes manual and it was telling you to use a light bulb to test if it is functioning properly (3.6v i think).
Hopefully my prob is the thermostat!!
Any input would be appreciated. Thanks
