Whats the diff' with 4AC and 4KC? Tue, 18 May 2004 06:53 Go to next message
Just wondering if anyone could tell me, all i know at the moment is the 4K was available in my KE38panelvan and the 4AC was available in sprinters, i'm sure many other vehicles as well. The go is my 4KC has a stuffed welsh plug and i was thinking of just dropping another motor in for the time being, would a 4AC bolt in without too much troubles? I ask because everyones selling 4A's and nobodies selling 4K's!

Any help will be greatly appreaciated

André

I think the short answer is that it won't bolt straight in.

K series engine is mounted differently to A series engine...

A quick search on your part could clear it up Smile

the letter in the engine name "K" refers to the block that is used. ie 4K 3K 2K etc all use the same engine block. the number refers to the version of that engine that it is. 4k is the 4th version that was made, refering to bore, stroke, etc.

basically all K series engines will bolt in, and pretty much no other engine without modifications.

Regardless, a 4AC is hardly worth the effort of fitting instead of replacing the 4K. If you just want another 4K, you should be able to find them! Heck, I've got 3 of the things I'd be more than happy to sell if I actually thought I COULD (well, 2 of them in reasonable condition). Otherwise, follow the crowd like a blind sheep and go the 4AG Very Happy

Mick, i'm not sure if you think you are being helpdul, but every one of your posts has the same lacklustre approach to helping....

4AC is same work as fitting 4AG or any other motor. it wil have more torque but will need engineering.

4K's are not openly sold as hardly anyone wants them.. i have about 8 or 9 in my garage in various states....

just grab a 4K block from a wrecker, give it a freshen up and whak it in... or just change your welch plugs.

while you are there, fit a 3K head and do some porting and maybe a mild cam Wink
