I checked my paint the other day on my 4th gen...
Would u be able to explain what i could do about this
The top bit of the quarter panel is really nice and bright, but the bottom part under the pinstrip is like GLOSSY as but its like FADED, i think the bottom part has the clear coat, u can feel the edge....
What could I do about it?
I've tried cutting and polishing over the area, but it just won't do anything.....

Thanx for ur help!!!
Regards!

the edge is visible and the colours are different. any ideas if the car has had any damage repaired? if your cut and polish isnt working try a different grade, like heavy rejuvinator instead of final polish (makes sense to me) other than that try a high quality show wax to make it all glossy

eww, red paint is notoriously hard to match... it looks remarkably like it's had a respray in those areas, and they did it up to the line so it didn't look obvious.. is it on both sides of the car?
any signs of repair? would toyota have used two different paints??

Looks like a classic case of mismatched paint...it's pretty hard to match up reds because the factory colour tends to fade quite badly. More than likely someone smacked the side of the car in a shopping car park or something like that and it had to be resprayed.
You should see my car...*puke*...most cars more than 15 years old need a respray unless you are willing to live with two/three tone paint jobs.

Def a respray, run a magnet over the area thats a different colour, see if it sticks if it doesnt its prob full of bog. the best thing you could do to fix it is to use a heavy (painters) cut and polish, this will get rid of some of the lip (edge of the thicker paint) but dont do it too much or you will go back to primer, resprays are commonly very thin...
oldcorollas is spot on, also the pigment in red paint is the most uv effected, hence it fades the quickest, so even if it is a perfect match when applied, the differnce will show after a year or two

Hey,
Its only on one side,
But it runs all the way down the side,
Its suprising but its in the only areas which i used the orbital polisher at work....
Maybe i did the top bit, but didn't do the bottom, I'm just worried of fucking up the paint even more..
I might try that industrial strength stuff, or speak to the other detailer at work...
Damn annoying though
The other side is fine, i used a polishing cloth for that side...
Thanx

orbital polisheres aren't the best thing to use, all u need is a small hard object to scratch up the surface.
