As long as there are no sharp edges to cut inquisitive fingers and it doesn't take away from the strength, its generally OK.
Best bet is to talk to the engineer, as they will tell you what they require, they have the last say anyway.
as for the size, it is a PWR at a custom size. it was measured up to just fit without cutting any bumpers etc. cant remember the size but it is about 400 x 400 at the widest of the tanks, the core is about 330 i think.
I can measure if you want the exact details.
cheers

mate, The turbo i got on mine is a bb t3. it is bigger that the 3tg turbo that i had on there b4 which put out 180hp a wheels on 7psi. i believe they respond well with a bit of forced persuasion like any engine if you look after its requirements for fuel, ignition etc. i hope for a fair bit more hp with this one, especially considering the many times that wallet has opened lately.
Have to admit the engineer hasn't had a final thumbs up yet, i just told him what i was doing and he thought it was ok, but also my dad is a mechanical engineer so i followed his guidelines with that one. should be ok tho

hey TA22..
i looked into this a fair bit when i put the cooler in my car. if your lookin for an off the shelf item, the only one that i found to fit was the mitsubishi VR4 cooler. With this cooler there was minimal cutting involved, only a 10-cm strip had to be cut from the lower plastic lip, and u can even use the mounting points that come on the standard VR4 cooler, as they line up with sum existing bolts on your celica. price is bout 450 for the cooler, and the cooler can take easy take 230+rwkw

yeh the only problem is that the holes have already been cut, and look very similar to the holes cut into syco2ts front. have a look at the pics on my website of the ta22GT front

I finially got the car to the engineer yesterday, he had a look at how i cut the holes in the front, it passes because the loads going through the front of the car go through the top removable bar and the fixed cross member underneath the radiator.
Where the holes were cut there was double thickness metal that goes up to the headlights, that was cut, but this was OK because it does not join the the cross member. I must admit he did have a bit of a look tho.
So there you go, thats what i found.
BTW i did not pass the damn test, the engine bay was fine, but i was told that the odyssey battery that i put in the boot had to be in a sealed box, as well as clamped down inside it. I built a mostly wooden box that retained the battery tightly inside it, and made it so that if in an accident, the box would stay around the battery. apparently not good enough.
The other problem i had was that apparently the surge tank and fuel system must be contained in a fire resistant enclosure with venting to the outside of the car. i know of many other cars engineered with the same fuel system, no metal sealed boxes for them, WHY 4 ME!!!
