18r Gearbox Thu, 20 May 2004 00:31 Go to next message
I have a 1979 rn41 toyota hilux that came with an 18r engine. I am now fitting a 18rgeu engine and have dumped the old 4spd coloum shift box. What im wondering is there a box that wil bolt up to the 18rgeu using same gearbox mounts. The only modification would be making it floor change. if yes is it a straight swap or will i have to change things up eg mounts drive shaft etc
Any help will be great
Thanks

Shaun

The W50 (steel-case Celica 5 speed) will bolt up to your 18R-GEU, but I can't tell you if you'll need a different driveshaft or crossmember. What was the old box?

My guess here is that the L50 and W50 are very similar and the the L refer's to a column shift mechanism. However, given that and the fact that gearbox crossmembers and tailshafts can differ, the only way for you to be sure is to measure up all the critical dimensions on your L50 and they go have a good long look at a W50.
