Does your engine rev smoothly to redline before? I thought all older 4age ie bluetop redtop rattle at high rev.

My with my 4AC my car vibrated like all f#*k... when I pulled it out it turned out to be the engine mounts had bent slightly and the metal was touching each other and transmitting the engine vibration to the chassis... a bit of TLC with a big hammer fixed the problem. It was most noticible (read: bloody annoying) when idling.
Dont know if this helps at all...

Lack off oil in the motor, perhaps oil pump problems, or a blockage.

hmmm
thanks fellas!
Ok I will inspect the mounts (quite likely as it was 'written off' recently.. though it DID pass blue slip)
and will take the sump off and inspect the pickup - is full of brand new oil.
it is not "thuddy" enough for main bearings I don't think. Will also inspect oil pressure
It is a red top and has never really done it before.. so yeah.. am a little concerned

What fuel were you putting in it??
Could it have been bad pinging now you may have broken a ring land on one or two pistons consequently loosing compression and causing the car to not idle....??
Just a thought i may be way off........lets hope so

hey thanks for the idea dude
it was optimax 1/4 and regularl unleaded 3/4 of the time.
ran fine on reg ulp for forever. timing was stock etc etc..
ok, well it is in at a workshop in Castle Hill right now.. hopefully they can look at it tomorrow or today

ok boys, engine is STUFFFFFFFFFFED
think it might be a cracked piston or something... so much for 4age toughness... was only ever overheated moderately once..
anyway.. time for a rebuild or replacement.. I am SO SICK of working on this car..

Won't totally know till the old girl is apart.

cheaper getting another engine than rebuilding, but if you rebuild you know what your getting! give me a yell if you want either.

how much for a 100kw 4AGE? and an 20V?
That's what I like about doing a rebuild.. already know what we're getting  but rather time consuming..lol

a 100kw should be around the $795-900 for a good one.
20v your talking alot more as you need all the bits that go with it for a conversion.
