Seriously, a tiny amount of effort will yield all the information you need and more besides; RB series hybrid engines are very well documented and have been around for donkeys years. Don't be so lazy! Razz

somehow, I don't think whacking a GTR head on an rb30 is going to making 400-500hp easily???

Far enough if it is a random toyota Q. But a Nissan one!?!?!
Lucky Norbie only had time to load 1 barrel.

Anyway, I'll be slightly useful:

Jump on www.skylinesdownunder.com there are a couple of guys doing the RB26/30 hybrid, a guy by the alias of RIPS is the man to talk to, he is running 10's in a R32 GTS4 with stock rb30 internals.

Kinda off topic, but has anyone heard of a blown JZ engine being shoe-horned into a GT4? Evil or Very Mad

I thought JZ engines were North-South Rear Wheel Drive 6 cylinders.

A GT4 has an east-west 4 Cylinder.

How you could fit a JZ into a GT4 is beyond me !

There are a few guys in Sydney running a RB30 with RB26 heads but go to the calaisturbo forum to get an answer.

Don't waste your money or effort on a twin cam swap. It is obviously BETTER, but for the money you spend you are better off upgrading your turbo/intercooler/exhaust/brakes/suspension/engine management.

I have pointed out many a time that there are single-cam RB30's with 800hp running 9 second passes.... why go to the trouble and expense?

Sorry, perhaps i didn't nmake myself clear. Im aware of the logistics of the swap, but i didn;t say it was possible, i was asking f it had been done before...

GT, I think Kyoto was referring to his earlier question, "but has anyone heard of a blown JZ engine being shoe-horned into a GT4?"

No I don't think that has been done (unless GT knows something? LOL) but there has been a twin-turbo UZ engine shoehorned into a GT4. This car was the star of the show at the Toyota Nationals this year.

Re: rb26/30 hybrid Fri, 21 May 2004 07:46 Go to previous messageGo to next message
Yes it is possible to bolt on a rb26 head to a rb30 block. Has been done a lot of times but i cant see the sence as there are vls down here in melb that have run 8s with a std head, never really seen a quick vl run a rb26 head but it is a dead swap over. There was an article in zoom published a while back which detailed this conversion. Happy reading

Re: rb26/30 hybrid Fri, 21 May 2004 08:42 Go to previous messageGo to next message
you can use the RB25 or RB26 heads, but the RB20s require a fair amount of work to make them fit the RB30 block and isn't really worth the effort anyways considering the valvetrain is sized for a 2.0L AND you can make any other RB head fit with ease.

a small, but often overlooked point.

thanks to those who are offering advise rather than negitivity
ive searched skylines downunder
talked to a few different people
and yes ive also searched google
im not a nissan man hence asking for those with any knowlege or experience as its no definate as this si fro my gf's fathers vl wagon an no its not a vl turbo
he was considering the twincam approach for better fuel economy/power and driveability on open roads where the car will spend most of its time yet has decided to leave it stock now considerign the vague info ive found emans he will have to customise items beyond factory level
once again thannks to those who offered constructive advise rather than negitivity and jumping to assumed conclusions

I was just pointing out that it was not very cost-efficient, trying to save you (and anyone else who reads this thread in future) from upgrading something that was probably good enough to begin with. If it ain't broke, don't fix it Smile

Re: rb26/30 hybrid Sat, 22 May 2004 13:41 Go to previous messageGo to next message
Do it, please. Any amount of work is worth it to eliminate the sounds of yet another SOHC RB30 from this world! That said, for simplicity and mild results, use the management from the RB25DE as well, being AFM it will come moderately close for tuning purposes, and should help the whole power/economy thing for a sensible price, provided you can score the RB25 parts at a sensible price and don't have to pay Backyard Vince to do it for ya! Very Happy
