Anyone know a good place in sydney to get a clutch kit?, How much ?.
I need something heavy duty, that will not destroy my gearbox.

I got quotes yesterday for the same thing for a Daikin kit.
If you have an 86kw 4AGE, kit cost is $345.00
If you have a 100kw 4AGE, kit cost is $375.00
This is for a heavy duty (approx 40% more clamping force) full faced organic clutch kit with throwout bearing.
Cheers

Personally I'm not overly excited about the daikin kits... then again that was because I was trying to use them with a turbo! But value for money, I'd pass up myself...
I'd suggest if you dont want something too extreme, go for the RPM kit, otherwise talk to Direct Clutch in QLD, $300 will get you 2500lb clamping force, plate and bearing. If you get a full face sprung centre plate, it's not particularly harsh either. Plus, with a NA 4ag, you should never kill it.

For cars around 160hp I wouldn't try anything fancy. Originally I was going to be using PBR organic and some jap aftermarket 4AG pressure plate. Then PBR organic and PBR pressure plate. Pulled my 4AC and found Exedy and Repco. (The repco pressure plate looked really good condition and quality so I was going to use that.) Now, I will be usign TRD 3puck clutch ($40) and Jap pressure plate. Combined with lightened flywheel, hill starts will be fun

i just ordered a new clutch for my 4AGE today. it is a stock spec setup that will be rebuilt and beefed up with a claimed 30 -40% increase in clamping force. they say that to achieve this they will fit stiffer springs and modify the pivot point of the diaphragm. it's a 200mm clutch kit, and with a new thrust bearing, the cost is $190 trade. it is being sourced through ABS here in melbourne...

call Western Clutches at St Marys - (02) 9623-1233
I just bought my clutch kit from there, good prices and service.
They should be able to make you up just about anything for your application.

The 4AC clutch plate will not reach the outer edges of the flywheel face which is OK but if you destroy your plate then you may say good by to flywheel. Also bolting of pressure plate may be different. RWD 4AG + 4AC clutch will go and hold at high rev's, but won't hold burnouts. This is a short term fix.
Cheap options: Find RWD Flywheel and use 4AC clutch kit (hell, you may have re-con clutch kit in there like I found on mine.)Tis is a very short term fix so pulling the box would be not long away and you don't want to do that. OR Try to find a used 100Kw clutch kit. OR if you can only find factory 100Kw kit's (say at wrecker's) that have worn out clutch plate, and pressure plate fingers look okay: take the pressure plate, go off to big part's store and grab a PBR organic (~$100) clutch disk for SX corolla. This would easily hold the 20v.

so if I want to use the OEM 20V flywheel, I have to source a 100kw FWD clutch kit to go with it...rite? (so the FWD flywheel and clutch kit can be use in a RWD????)
you talking about a worn out clutch plate...so will this be any problem. Can I get the clutch plate from the parts store also? How much would this normally cost??

I have never put a 100Kw clutch kit onto a 20v flywheel but all indications point to it working. Somebody confirm??
I was going to be getting a 20v flywheel before I hooked up my lightened flywheel and was going to ditch all my 86Kw clutch kits. I'm pretty sure any FWD 100Kw clutch kit *should* bolt up to the 20v flywheel. Both have 212mm (well maybe 215mm from above post's) face. I'm sure you could get a PBR FWD clutch kit for less than $300, say $200. But just make sure you grab a spigot bearing that won't be in the FWD kit.
The closest I have come to buying anything new in terms of clutch is the PBR organic clutch plate I paid $70 for. I think it was $100->$140. No idea. My TRD clutch -> bargain.
I still have to split my 4ac and jap g/box in my parts car as there is some 'special' jap aftermarket clutch in there. Who know's, cusco, TRD or anything. My aftermarket pressure plate was in the back seat of the car bolted to a 4AC flywheel w/ organic plate. Deffinantly 4AG aswell as the fingers are pretty FAT. Ahhh the joy's of the previous owner working at an importer.

Guess I didn't really answer question: You can use FWD clutch kit in RWD. Just need to add spigot bearing to the kit.
Worn out clutch plate is worn down close to rivets in th plate. Worn out pressure plate is heavily worn fingers fro the realise bearing on clutch fork. Looking at a few will allow you to determine waht is okay and what is farked.
Should be able to pick up at parts store. IMO any new organic clutch kit will handle 160Hp. Even a 200mm. It's only after about 180Hp that puck's should seriously be looked at.Tho how you treat the clutch and your driving style will determine clutch life as the GZE clutch kit thread suggests.

I'm not so sure that an organic clutch & OEM pressure plate would hold 160hp. when i first got my standard 3TGTE (160hp) I used a 200mm T18 flywheel, and repco clutch kit. It was easy to make it slip when changing hard from 3rd to 4th, and 4th to 5th at 6000rpm or so. You'd dump the clutch after changing, and the motor would happily rev away smoking the clutch.

I was thinking more along the lines of NA 4AG and should have stated that. For a turbo or supercharger, the torque output will be too much for the clutch kit to hold.
In a way, you sort of validate my theory tho. Without the extra torque high in the rev range and high loading, the organic plate and factory pressure plate was doing a resonable job.

true, the factory one did do a 'reasonable' job when not abused. You did say 160hp, I should have assumed you were referring to a 4AGE, since that is what this thread is about huh?
