Pizza Delivery

Was just wondering if anyone has done it before. As I need a job to pay for stuff on my car and aparently Dominos are offering jobs near where I live.
What are the ups and downs?? Is it worth it??
And any other tips would be good.

NICE...Shane...LOL
If u got a car that uses like no petrol its good. Or if u can wait till u get tax back next year. My mate got $2800 back in fuel for delivering last year. Thats a pretty good tax return for delivering pizzas! Although u get sh!t money whilst delivering.
Thanks Ben

Unfortunantly I used to be a Shift Supervisor at Dominos. They are ALWAYS advertising for drivers, theres a reason for that. They hire a driver for the night, and they'd be like the Cool1 ! (very cool too dude ! there has been sooo many times where i wanted to do that!)
They might do a few nights work, then give up. It's ok, if you like driving your car, and don't mind the shitty hours, its not too bad. The money on the other hand is pretty crap.
But its perfect for what I was doin, TAFE during the day, Pizza delivering at night. They are flexible too. If ya don't wanna work one night, easy, ring em up and tell them that you car has broken down !
Once I took too long on a delivery, mainly because I stopped at a mates house and they, of course, questioned me when I got back. I told the manager that the car just stalled, took me a while to find and that it was the lead from the dizzy to the coil came off! But, I had a SA63 celica, and the coil or whatever is built inside the dizzy ! Therefore there isnt really a lead ! hehe

I used to work at Pizza Hut, but we got paid by the hour plus a small amount per delivery. I think it was like $11 an hour plus $1.50 per delivery. In between deliveries all we usually did was fold boxes. There were some majorly annoying things about it though. Houses with no numbers out the front, door bells that didnt work and the people were too deaf to hear you knock, and the people who treated you like shit.
BUT I did get a gorgeous girls phone number (never rang her though for some reason ), delivered to a party with girls in bikinis everywhere, and there were always skimpy dressed girls or girls in underwear answering doors.

The worst thing is deliverying pizzas on a rainy night...
Finding houses at night with fogged up windows is not fun.
And the car stinks of pizza for ages too.

The cornering lamps on the Soarer were so handy down really dark streets or when it was raining for looking for house numbers. Although i probably looked like an idiot driving 5 blocks with my indicators on!

I enjoyed the job, especially the free pizza. Amazingly it cost me more in petrol using my little merc 190E than it did in my Soarer, cept on weekends when everyone was out so i was dragging all night too

Unfortunately you're more likely to come across fat middle-aged blokes in their underwear... which is a far less pleasant experience!
I did the piza delivery thing for 3 years. It seemed OK at the time, but I was too young to know any better. I realise now that the pay and working conditions were piss-poor... not worth it IMO.

I did deliveries for Dominoes for about 3 months then just stop going to work it sucked that bad, the money seemed to be OK but then i spent it on petrol, And I got some WEIRD delivery stories too. Like getting to one house and there was a guy from eagle boys with the exact same order the guy was so stoned he forgot he had all ready ordered and delivering 40 pizzas to a school. and Managers that would dip into my tips claiming i was short money even after i double count!!
Want my advice LOOK ELSE WHERE!!!!!

If ya just want a small job in the afternoons, look into delivering some local rag papers! These jobes usally pay well when you can do a few runs! Plus you get all that exercise! The only bad thing is when it rains or when the old people wait outside just so they can speak crap to you for some bullshit amount of time!

hey u guys, ive heard like heaps freaky stories about pizza delivering... like being called out to housing commission areas and being car jacked and mugged for cash and food by junkies. thats just an urban legend i heard, can anyone correct me on this? if u need to work night shifts and can handle angry customers work in a customer service centre, pays a bit more than pizza runs but pretty boring.

I did paper runs for 7 years... Damn, that's probably why i'm sooo skinny... It wasn't that bad though... I pulled in around $1500 per year when I dumped half of them ... I'm happy that I did it though cause that's where I got the money to buy my first car which was worth $8000... Then a further $3500 for a sound system... Not bad for my first car...

Pizza hut, no way dude! My second job is with a company called Storage King. The money is excellent, the boss is cool and its a very well organised professional organisation. If you have some sales skills and the gift of the gab, maybe this could be an idea for you.

It probably depends where you are. I worked at Pizza Hut in Toowoomba for 3 years and did thousands of deliveries, but I never once felt threatened. I can't recall anyone being mugged during that time, not even the female delivery drivers. It might be a different story in a bigger city though.

One of the drivers i used to work with in Shepparton got belted one night pretty bad. He ran off got in his car and then reveresed into a light pole. That was pretty bad, but it was the only one we had there.

I did it for just over a year at Domino's. We got 8.00 an hour for the first three months (probation) and then it went up to 8.90. We got 1.20 per delivery as well. I think both figures went up a little since I was working there.
Was okay, when I do my tax though, and compare how much I actually worked there and what I got compared to my new job...its laughable.
Cold, wet nights do suck though, visibility bites, especially when the windows are fogged up and your heater doesn't work

I did Pizza Hut for 7 years. I started when I first got my brand new ae82. All expenses on the car were tax deductions (fuel, tyres- A-008s, rego ,insurance, interest on loan, depreciation). Then more expenses like 4 wheel discs conversion, 4age conversion (the old 4ac must have blown or something ) I was getting about $14- an hour, plus 1 dollar per delivery. No troubles with any customers, except one guy at a party who poured some beer on the car. I took it home and gave it a good clean on company time, and the guy was blacklisted. I don't think the stop-start is that bad on your car, except the starter motor, as the engine isn't getting cold. Since we gave police free pizzas, the only time I got pulled over ( u-turn over double yellows) I was let off with a warning.
try it. you can quit any time.

Is there some tax problem with signing up with Pizza Hut for one night, and tax deducting my Big single turbo and intercooler? There must be some regulation saying you can only deduct off the Pizza income, not my regular job. Are there any tax accountants out there?

The way it worked was. 1/ keep a log book for 3 months. From this you work out how many km are business use as a percentage of total. Ie Total 5000km of which 3000 were business gives 60%. 2/ Get the total of your bills (keep all those receipts) and you claim that multiplied by the 60%. This figure comes off your taxable income, not the amount of tax you pay- so it isn't dollar for dollar. I'll guess you are on about 30 cents in the dollar bracket. This means your 60% becomes about 20% back in your pocket. In most cases your expenses won't exceed your income
It is advisable to keep your log book accurately, but you might not do as much private driving as other months..

oops missed a bit there.
The deduction doesn't come off this income or that.. it comes off the total of all. And obviously 1 night won't work. You can only claim expenses incurred in the period you worked there.

I did it for too long when I had the old corolla.
I didn't earn enough to pay tax, so no tax return for me.
In the long run, it's not worth it. Driving your car into the ground, having to fix it all the time. I'm never doing that crap again.
Quote: | I worked at pizza hut for a bit in the kitchen.....it was the most unorganised fukn thing i have ever seen

That's because it is run by kids.
I was a driver, but when not driving, I did every other job there except for the actual ordering of food from the suppliers to the store. You name it, I did it on the lowest driver wage. And the pizza slut I was at had a restaurant as well.
