This girl i know is now selling her '86 Supra, it has had an engine replacement for a '96 NA supra engine, Im not sure what engine this might be, she will tell me in a couple of days, but im guessing 1jz hopefully.
I also don't know how much she wants yet (helpful hey), but i was maybe considering getting it, im not sure.
Because for the last year i've been researching and saving to do a 3stge conversion in my st162, as some of you may know.
But my plans were to do the celica, keep it, then move onto getting a mkIII supra and modifying that. Now I'm stuck with a dilemma. I've done quite a bit of work on the celica and really like what it's turned out to be, but before i got it i had my heart set on a supra, which i could not find. And now here i have an opportunity and choice to make. Except I know the supra is going to cost me a shitload compared to the celica.
Thanks for your time people.
Suggestions?

How much is she selling it for? Remember it's going to cost a whole lot more in running costs and also more to maintain.

96 NA Supra engine is 2JZ-GE. You'll find it won't be too bad on running costs, but of course it will be more than you're used to now. Performance won't be stunning (it's still a heavy car) but you have the option of bolting a 2JZ-GTE in pretty easily.

As Norbie said, probably 'tis a 2jz-GE. If you really want a 1jz Mk3 - buy mine!

Caledwvech: Like i said before, not sure, she will get back to me.
2jz-gte is just the same as the ge but it's internals are stronger as it's a turbo engine, right. How about the option of just turboing the 2jz-ge? Maybe not worth it.
What my plans are and always were to turn a mk supra into a drift pig (yeah i know, quite hard), im not sure if it is possible? But i've always liked the look of the ol' 80s Toyotas, especially pop-up lights (many would agree, its cute).
Hmmmm RWD VS FWD?
I've grown to love my cell, it's a hard one.
I just wasn't expecting this, because the 3sgte conversion was going to start in a couple of months, and i don't want go through the hassle of selling my car, as well as actually letting it go. Ohhhhh love it's heartbreaking sometimes.

If it is in fact a 96 Supra engine, it's a 2JZ. The MK4 Supra was only ever sold with a 2JZ.
As for turboing the 2JZ-GE, I heard somewhere that it can unusualy hard to do. Not sure why.
