icon5.gif  engine temperatures and aftermarket thermometers.... Fri, 21 May 2004 16:17 Go to next message
Hi guys,

Just a few quick questions...

I recently replaced my factory gauges on my mkIII supra with a set of EL guages I made myself (which look nuts Cool )but when I put everything back together, the placement of the needle for my temperature gauge was off a lil so it doesn't accurately read the temp. Now due to the fact that it was a pain in the arse to get it all in, I don't like the idea of taking it all apart to fix the needle. Also considering that I would much rather actual numbers than a rough idea of a scale between C and H (and I'm lazy), and that I have a spare blue backlit thermometer that would easily mount on/in my dash with a temperature probe that would need a lil modification....

Basically what range of temperatures can I expect from my 7MGE, where does the temperature probe from the existing gauge conect (somewhere near the thermostat I would assume??) and has anybody used a standard thermometer for this sort of use and can recommend/not recommend it?

Thanks heaps guys.

Cheers, Darcangel

one bit of advice

beware with el backlight faces

if u put them in and out more than afew times they might break the tabs on them which supply power

i have had this happen to me
i would just put up with it

i personally had bad experience with them and tryin to explain to customer why they broke
then try to get manufacturer to replace was a pain

so handle them with care

u might have diff brand so im not sure but just some advice
