2003 corolla - not too shabby Sun, 23 May 2004 10:43 Go to next message
Hi all,

Just bought my new car (will appear in members rides as soon as I take some photos) - its a 2003 corolla ascent manual.

They go not too bad...I was a bit shocked for it really - first gear winds out to almost 70kmph!

2nd takes to about 90kms and third around 110 - 120... *this is changing at 5000*

anyone else out there driven one yet and got any ideas on mods? I know TRD have released a bolt on supercharger to take the motor from 100kw to 140 odd kw...but its fair expensive to import *unless I can convince my toyo dealership that they want one enough Razz *

all I can say - is so fair nice enough to drive - the only thing I can think off atm that its lacking is some bass from a nice sub or two Cool

anyway anyone else have any thoughts on the new corolla range?

I've driven a 1ZZ Corolla. It's not bad. Lots of mid range torque.

The best mod I reckon is to stick a 2ZZ-GE from the Celica/Corolla Sportivo in there.

its bloody weird engine layout for a FWD... the exhaust comes out the firewall side of the engine Smile

No wonder there are supercharger kits available, a lot of room around the intake area...

One thing is for sure, you won't be fitting a massive turbo on there without oxy torching the firewall, plus it would probably melt the dashboard Smile

EDIT : Also, the perspex covering the dashboard dials isn't fastened properly, its all wobbly and moves around. I thought it was just a bad one, until I tried it on one of the other fleet Corollas.. same thing.

Mines the 1zz..version

I think the superchargers a nicer option *in this case* for the car... though I gotta put the subs in first Smile

Nark: Bang on with mid torque though over 110 its a bit slow ..but getting to 110...wow....

*I'm going to have to wobble my perspex now ;)*

Honda K series engines like the DC5R are like this.......... I think it is a better design.... less bends in the headers thats for sure.
