am interested in purchasing one of these in the Adelaide area. must be fairly stocky as it has to be an every day driver as well (ie i don't want bucket seats or bodykit etc)or too many additions to the engine just a straight ae86, low k's, etc let me know. may consider aus spec w/4age (did see a nice one on here not far from me but alas that was sold months ago. cheers

dodgyness?? at 5600 that is almost what some importers regard as wrecking value, so it wouldve been in poor condition, remember this is a 20 year old car....
look out for, underbody rust, roll cage, or where a roll cage has been, very noisy lsd'd, a missing pod filter ( n e one remeber that one lol ) um, bent and repaired panels just have a look over with a fine tooth comb, and go with someone who knows a lot about 86's and ull be fine! have fun, but be prepared to spend $8k for a nice one, then 1K to get it on the road, and keep some spare for mods!

importers will always tell you that ae86s will be expensive, but the truth is that they always put big margins on them! i have been looking for a jdm 86 for ages, and i have someone searching for me in japan, and i will get a real good one for 6 garuntee you. but buying off places like yahoo auctions like most do, the prices are always high.
eg. the car he just finished looking at for me was going to be not too much more than your 'wrecking velue' landed here. it was 86 trueno gt apex hatchback, built as a drift car 3 months ago, cage, seem welded, new black paint, all components in excellent condition, coilovers, trd lsd, seats inc rebuilt 20v motor.. etc etc. yes its true so dont tell me otherwise
i almost bought it, but they drove it, and another guy followed it, and it crabbed down the road a little, so i decided against it. i know it would be worth getting just for the parts, but that doesnt concern me at the moment. i just want a car for me!
it was a private sale, but see something like this on yahoo, and it would fetch probly 5k+ just for the car, and then whoever bought it wouldnt find out till later that the chassis is bent...
oh and by the way, the coupes are very cheap in comparison so that why people prefer to bring them in...

hmmm...some interesting points...cheers guys. i'm only really enquiring atm as research for when i really start looking toward the end of the year. i'm gonna budget my self around 8k all up...bank approval pending of course! 13_954 that sounds like a nice setup but would not be something i would personally consider. my my concern is that it already has a 4age in it already and a fixed rear end. The rest i want to be pretty stocky in the hope that i can avoid problems like the one you mentioned. This will be my everyday car as well so i don't want it grabbing too much attn. mods no...stocky yes i guess...but twin cam
