post cold-startup 5ME - wont rev over 2K when cold

hi folks, any suggestions on where to start looking for solution to this minor problem:
5ME, manual, supra
engine rebuilt with under 30k on clock
stock engine/induction
when cold, starts very easily, but misses and stumbles (as if running out of fuel) when revving over 2k rpm. problem is gone within 750m of home.
Is not a major problem - if i let it idle up to warm temps (in 60 secs or so), it doesn't happen. doesn't happen if engine is started warm.
where i was going to start looking: Plugs, plug leads and fuel filter.
sounds reasonable? (oh, replacing with 1JZ or 2JZ is not an appropriate solution )
tia, charles.

Unlikely to be the CSI - it starts easily.
Water temp sensor? See if it is within the reference resistance range when cold? Or maybe just replace it and see how you go?
Check all the basic stuff first of course.

I had this exact problem with my MX73 after I had a Jap import 5M-GE installed. In my case there were two problems.
1. The cold start injector had perished
2. The TPS switch had been set incorrectly
I would suggest to have a close look at your TPS switch and make certain it is set correctly for your engine type.

update: fuel pump several days after original post. ... not good...
so with much appreciated help from People100 fuel tank removed, VL pump located, tank re-installed .... but it still doesn't start
jump ahead a day (to tonight) with Wilbo's help we ascertain that the pump does shift fuel, but at not a high pressure ;(
We clamped line at fuel filter, ran pump but you could easily squeeze the line at the tank - not a sign of >30psi? (which in the lower range of pressure for this car?)
so... back to step 2 - remove as much fuel as storage containers allow, remove tank (again), bench-test pump, probably locate alternative pump...
... then get back to the original probelm - hopfully gone, then onto the "wire does it pop/bank so easily when suddenly letting go of throttle - is the TPS correct setup - ... and what other bits do i need to Megasquirt it ...
