Throwout bearing for AE71/AE86 Tue, 25 May 2004 11:58 Go to next message
What does this look like? The only one I've ever seen is in the car, and I can't remember what it looks like... But if I'm not mistaken it's just a plain ring (like a donut)?

I bought a throwout bearing this afternoon, and got home to be greeted with something that looked a little different. It's like the plain ring, but it also has tabs with clips on it. I called to confirm and they said that was the one for the AE71/86?

Part number stamped on the bearing is 50TKA3305. Can anyone confirm that this is the correct / wrong part before I take my car apart to find out it doesn't fit? If wrong, does anyone know what the correct part should be?

Thanks Smile

cant help you with the part number, but the bearing carrier does have two tabs on it, you are lucky to get clips with it, my clutch kit only had the bearing, i had to hammer the bearing off my carrier and hammer the new one back on, plus source a new clip as mine was missing one.

if it doesnt fit, go back to the bearing shop with your old one, slam down the one they sold you and ask for a replacement, but odds on it will fit!

Umm... the carrier is like a cylindrical thing yes? With tabs on it that the clips clamp on to the fork with?

This one is different. It has no carrier, it is one piece. The tabs are on the actual bearing body itself... The whole unit, including the tabs etc is only about... 20mm high?

*edit* not to mention if I had my old one in hand, I wouldn't be able to get to the bearing shop!

sounds like you got a front wheel drive one.

My mate just got a clutch kit for his sprinter and his bearing didnt have the tabs.

EDIT: I dont know what you mean by 20mm, maybe you got the wrong bearing altogether. 20mm is way to small if thats the size of the bearing

Hehe, no no, the actual height of the bearing + tabs etc is about 20mm. The diameter of the bearing itself is about... 70mm? I can't find my ruler...

But yes, so it's definately the wrong one then. I'll call them up again today...

Thanks!

You definately got a FWD style one. It wont even fit over your RWD clutch fork, and its designed for use without a separate carrier. I got sent the same thing with my clutch kit, and had to purchase the correct one from a local auto parts store.

Yup, the other part number was wrong too. Eventually got the 40TKD07 (NSK), hopefully it's correct. At least it looks correct this time...
