Hi Guys,

I'm contimplating a TRD quick shift kit for my SW20, they seem to be $350 or so, just wondering if anyone has got one of these in a SW20 or any TRD quick shift kit? Are they worth the money? A noticable difference in gear shifting? Does the gear knob look ok? Laughing

Sounds rather stupid, I'm guessing they dont come with installation instructions? Are they easy to install(SW20)?

yes TRD quick shifts work, they make the shift quicker and shorter with the same time it normally takes to shift. If you shift even quicker all the time this will lead to syncro wear.

you dont get a knob with the kit

While not on the SW20 topic i have heard bad things about the TRD T50 short shifters, mainly with the angle that they shift at and the shaft length causing bad vibrations under load and often popping out of gear.

This has happened to one i was in, but i cant conclusively say it was the shifter's fault and not the T50.

I got a C's one for reference.

i have a trd quick shift for my sw20

the shift is shorter, but not by much at all, considering the size of the std sw20 shifter, its not worth the 350$$$ i got mine for 160 with a leather trd knob thats worth it....

penrith toyota give them a ring thats what i got mine for!

You can make your own short shifter for practically nothing.

All the TRD short shifter does is move the tab for connecting the shift cable further up the stick. You can pull the shifter apart, grind off the tab and then weld it on further up the stick.

I did this with my AW11 about 2 years ago and it worked like a charm even with the terrible welding I did with a dodgy old stick welder. I did however redo it recently and get it welded well, but that is because I wanted to shorten the shift further. The problem with moving the tab too far up the stick is that the shift cable will rub on the centre console, this can be fixed by making a spacer to go between the plate that bolts to the floor and the shifter bolt face.
